Bigsby on a 330.

Post by rickenvon »

I have been thinking about having a professional put a Bigsby on my Rick 330. Does this sound dumb? I play alot of modern stuff and have no guitars with a vibrato/tremelo and would like one. The rick is my baby and I think is the only guitar I will ever play so this would be the one to get a bigsby. Any opinions?

The Accent (Ric) vibrato performs similarly and can be installed much-less invasively. BUT -Rics looks GREAT with Bigsby vibratos! If you want it, go for it. I can't imagine you would be disappointed. I've debated putting one on my 360V64 for a long time.

By all means do it.....it'll look great and play great. If you get a chance, buy the DVD of John Fogerty's Premonition Tour. See him use his 340 for Susie Q with a bigsby....beautiful!

NO NO NO

I feel quite strongly about this. Bigsby's should not go on Rickenbackers. It just doesn't work. Looks daft. Lennon got away with it on the baby 325, but I've seen a few 330's with them on and it looks terrible. Terrible. Like putting a crane on the bacK of a Ferrari. Don't get me wrong, I like Bigsbys. And cranes look great and do a solid job on the back of pickup trucks. Just not on RIckenbackers. If that makes sense.

All merely my opinion of course, but why not stick an Accent on there? Totally Ric and cool as the proverbial....

Also, you say your Ric is your baby - well you're going to have to drill irreversable holes into her face for a bigsby.

I am not a big fan of the accent tremelo which is why I havent considered it. I think ricks look superb with a bigsby. The only thing Im worried about is it staying in tune. I think if I get a professional to install it it will stay it tune better because they know what to do.

Hey Henri - it's your call of course and they can look great. I've got a Bigsby on one of my Gretschs and I fitted one to my Casino. It's really easy and they stay in tune great.

Go for it!

Staying in tune is not a concern for a healthy Bigsby installed correctly. I prefer the American-made Bigsbys to the Korean or Chinese ones; the bearings are bigger and fit better, although they do look roughly the same.

After all, they were designed by an aircraft machinist!

If you are sure that's what you really want, then go for it. I wouldn't though, just because you would have irreversible holes.

I thought holes were the same from either side; the ultimate reversible feature...

Gosh, that 330 is nice. Would have looked much better with an Accent, too!

Agree John. It used to be Tony Carey's.

And although we all know how much Tony rules, I wish he hadn't put that bigsby on it or it would now be mine!

Passed up the chance to pick it up a while back. Wonder where it is now....
