Brian gigs with his LK. I love it. I would too if I had one. Even if I had the DCM, I'd gig with it.
Re: ....and then there was only one (Ric)
I, too, only have one Rick right now. Sometimes it just happens. Maybe sometime I'll get a good deal on another old 4001 I like. But it had to be done.
Re: ....and then there was only one (Ric)
What an awfull thought, just one Rick... But somehow these two basses and the floor fit really well together. Maybe you should put gold hardware on the Wal. (Though crome on the Rick would be easier I suppose.)
Congratulations anyway! Nice basses!

Re: ....and then there was only one (Ric)
I've just got one, and I'm fine with that. Of course I wouldn't mind a C64S as well.
Re: ....and then there was only one (Ric)
If I had a Lemmy or a DCM or a 4001CS or some other Ric worth several thousand dollars it would get sold ... I'd rather have a generic 4003/4004 bassphlemmy wrote:Brian gigs with his LK. I love it. I would too if I had one. Even if I had the DCM, I'd gig with it.

brian-you have successfully done what i am trying to do...downsize. i had 9 basses,(not ricks),sold 4 so far, i want to end up with just my 4000 and 4004 and a jazz bass,so i am selling off what i can.(hooray for ebay!) both your basses are fantastic and they should be a very complimentary pair-very different animals, those 2!

I was down to one Rick for ten years..... Now I'm up to five.ajish4 wrote:Brian,
What a nice shot.
They look great together.
I only had one ric for 10 years, my CS and my wife & family were much happier in those days.

Re: ....and then there was only one (Ric)
Just a few random thoughts relating to above posts.....
The value or collector status of either is irrelevant to me. They are both fantastic playing and sounding basses so they'll get used and played hard whenever i get a chance. My band may be reforming in the Spring so they'll hopefully get some stage time before much longer. They aren't worth having if they don't get used/abused like they were meant to.
I could sell 'em and make a nice buck (break even on the Wal at this point and make a tidy sum on the LK) but I'm not hurting for money so why bother? I'd just blow it on GN parts anyway. Seriously, I'm a civil servant so I'm certainly not wealthy but my wife takes care of her share, we're kid-less (thank the "insert superior being here") and I can work "moonlighting" jobs which allows me to indulge in my shananigans. If something drastic happens and the need arises they would both be on the block in short order but until then some things are more important than money and the amount of enjoyment I get out of them after a rough day at work is irreplaceable.
I'd love to "blacken" the LK since I hate the gold but I'd have to get my spare p/u rings powdercoated 1st.....everything else is a piece of cake to locate.
The downsizing is actually pretty cool.....at my max I had 11 at once (seven were Rics) but that was a long time ago. In recent history I have only had six (5 Rics) but I would generally only change between two or three of my favorites. One of those was usually a "BEAD" strung Ric and since the Wal is a 5-er it fills that void nicely, along with the difference in tone it is certainly a perfect companion to the LK. On my list to acquire is a maple bodied USA BC Rich Mockingbird with full electronics. I had one but had to part with it around the time of my divorce 13 years ago due to financial reasons and I've missed it ever since. A great playing, sounding and killer looking bass (IMO). That would round out and diversify my mini-collection nicely.
I'd be happy to bring the Wal to MARF III. I just didn't anticipate much interest in it (except for John of course or Mike Gutierrez if he makes it out). Jeff, I can always bring it by your shop.....all you have to do is ask!
BTW.....I keep mentioning the Wal and raving about it. I'm in no way saying it is superior to any Rics or trying to brag about it. It's just different and it is new to me and an exciting (for me) departure. I didn't sell my Rics because the Wal was "better"....it was just that the LK can handle anything the other Rics did and is more special to me so I chose to keep it and sell the others. Part of my simplification program.
After reading the thread (and some other of my posts) I just thought that I might have come off wrong so I wanted to be clear.

Yes to both. Marc Seligman got the Blackened and another Forumite got the Red (he hasn't confirmed on the Forum so I'll leave it up to him if he wants to own up).
Paul, I still want credit for the Blackened if it makes it in your book.

Well, I guess if you're gonna be down to 2 those are a pretty damn fine pair.... take it from someone who knows a fine pair when he sees one.

What do you mean the Bass is too loud???
Re: ....and then there was only one (Ric)
If I ever get a LK I will be giging with that mofo for sure!
