The Fab Four - Have You Heard Them?

I am wondering who has heard the Beatles' tribute band, "The Fab Four." I would be interested in your review of their show. Thanks.

I saw them in '99 when "Yellow Submarine" was re-released. The Fab Four "warmed up" the crowd before the screening of the movie.
This event took place in an old church building in downtown Atlanta that had been converted into a concert venue called The Tabernacle, formerly called the House Of Blues during the '96 Olymic Games.
We were seated in the balcony. From there, it was easy to imagine yourself as one of the members of the audience in the performance scene in "A Hard Days Night"! The performance of these guys (which was phenomenal)only enhanced this experience!

I saw them at Disneyland a couple of times and I also saw them perform at a theater in my hometown of Santa Barbara. They're FAB!! They've got the gear down, the looks and moves down. But most of all they've got the sound down. They have a CD out now of Christmas songs done with familiar Beatle melodies.

Monday May 12, 2003 The Fab Four - The Ultimate Tribute played to a packed and sold out Fredericton Playhouse. The "fifty to sixty something" audience was not disappointed and were on their feet on numerous occasions as the Fab Four were greeted with applause, accolades and yes even screams reminiscent of the Beatles' early tours to North America. Fans danced in the aisles but none of the Fab Four had to have women pryed off of them as they cried "I love you." Hey get a grip, this is Canada, eh!

The performance was divided into the early and late Beatles' recording eras. The performers did a first rate job covering The Beatles' material and most importantly engaged and included the audience in their act from start to finish. Surely this must have been what is was like to have a front row seat in the Cavern. There were moments in which you felt swept away. It almost felt that one could have requested a song.

This was a musical and theatrical performance and completely live in all respects with no added background recordings. Each group member was in character throughout the show and added to the captivating performance that continued to build as the evening passed by far too quickly.

People laughed and they cried as there were many touching moments from the "Yesterday" Ed Sullivan performance of Ardy Sarraf to the haunting renditon of "Imagine" by Ron McNeil. Rolo Sandoval added a masterful touch on the drums and more than got by "With A Little Help From My Friends." Michael Amandor reminded us that even on a cold and wet night when it came to the inside of the Playhouse, "Here Comes The Sun."

I am sure that each person who attended had their own personal moments and there can be no doubt that the Playhouse would be sold out should the Fab Four return. So many thanks to Ron, Ardy, Michael and Rolo for the wonderful tribute. They are a reminder, through their own excellence and contribution, of what The Beatles have meant to our own personal development. So take a sad song and make it better. Strawberry Fields Forever!
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Thanks for the review Peter.........I think they are one of the acts slated for the Cleveland Beatles weekend - "Abbey Road On The River" in August.

A few of us are thinking of making the trek down from Toronto for that weekend, so your glowing review only adds to the draw!

The great thing with bands like this is that it gives people who lived through that era a chance to, in a small way, rekindle a bit of their youth , while also turning a whole new generation on to the music by giving them a slight glimpse as to how it may have looked to young people in the 60's. As I mentioned in a previous post, my kids are 17 and 16 and absolutely love the Beatles music.....not that they had much of a chance of anything otherwise in my house...but it's testament to just how powerful these songs are.
Cheers,

Steve

Hey- e-mail [email protected] if you're looking for a Beatles Xmas album... It was a 1970 fan club only release on Apple. A compilation of all their fan club flexi discs that was sent out every year to members. It'll probably cost you $200+ for a mint copy but there are fakes out there that'll cost you $30. If you want the CD you can probably find it on EBay for $25...

Oh, Perry is the guy that writes all the Beatles price guides... He's a nice and helpful human being when it comes to Beatles stuff.

I have two cousins who used to live on Long Island and they saw The Beatles at the famous Shea Stadium concert, they were I think, 15 and 12 at the time, I don't know where they were seated but they said it was almost impossible to hear them from all the girls shreaking and crying all around them. I bet that's a big part of why they stopped performing live, I've heard that they couldn't even hear themselves play.

I never saw The Fab Four but I did see Beatlemania on Broadway back in the '70's. I saw them twice since and they're still real good. David Grahame (McCartney) is no longer with the show and gone on to do his own professional, little known career. One time, "McCartney" was late and it was running over the time when they were supposed to start. I offered up my services, owning both a Hofner and a Rickenbacker, knowing all The Beatle songs, and singing like McCartney. Alas, the bass player finally showed up.

I saw Beatlemania also about ten or fifteen years ago, "Ringo" was unbelievable, bobbed his head up and down just like ringo did when he played. From where I was sitting you would swear it was really him.

Back in the early 80's, Beatlemania came to Hagerstown, MD. at the Maryland Theatre and I was lucky enough to know someone who got me a temporary job there as a usher....I was in my early 20's and listening to and watching Beatlemania and man, I was THERE!! What a great experience!!....I remember "Ringo" doing the head bob thing too....and "Pauly" shaking his head.."wooooooo"..... ah, the memories....

Now, I have a question, and I mean no disrespect (me?). The Fab Four are probably the most well known of the Beatle copy bands (in the U.S. anyway). I have not seen them but know they have been around a long time and of their reputation. Therefore I assume "The Fab Four" to be a major buisness enterprise. Their buisness is recreating the Beatles, covering the Beatles' ages years 21-30 (aprox). So do they make like Menudo and give one the (Beatle) Boot when one starts looking, I dunno, 45-ish?
I did see Beatlemania in the '70's, Mitch Weissman as Paul. Kinda liked it, kinda not. BTW, one of my faves, Marshall Crenshaw, played J.L. in B-mania at one time.
