Where would I find this part?

You can get an entire tailpiece assembly here. It's from a '76 4001 but is just like the one for your bass. It will fit your bass perfectly.

Yes they will yellow over the years. Here's my '73 Mapleglo...

Welcome Robert. I have a 79 4001 MG that's less than twenty serial numbers away, same "SC" prefix. How cool!

Thanks for the help guys!
I've checked the one on ebay and will watch.
Can these tailpieces be stripped and rechromed?
Looking at the color again, I see no wood grain just a cream color with
a black binding. Could this be a Ric color or repaint?
I picked up this bass from a guy in a club in Phoenix. about 1982
If i remember correctly it was "Hammerheads". Phoenix or Tempe?
Long gone I'm sure.
Need to clean or change those crusty jacks also.

I'll try to post a pic later today. (wife after me to go Christmas shopping with her)

Please!....all opinions welcome. Thanks again

If it's a cream color, it's probably was white at one time and has yellowed slightly to the cream color you see. As far as getting the tailpiece rechromed...yes it can be done but it would cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $30-$40 + shipping.
Here's my '78 white(cream)...
