Modifying an LK?

How about wiring it V V. The selector would be for the front and middle pickups, leaving the bridge pickup always hot. No drilling on the bass and all you'd have to do to the electronics is remove the tone cap and rewire what's left.

The only options I see for the switch are to either wire it up with a capacitor to act as as an instant tone cutoff, or you can have it operate a TASER that is mounted to the headstock.

Now THERE'S a unique and possibly useful mod!

Funny that. I've never considered modifying the LK or any other Rick. I've always felt that most passive basses don't really have a lot to offer in the realms of tone control. I'm a big believer in having everything flat out on the bass, and getting as much signal as possible to the amp. I can get just about any sound I want out of the Trace Elliot amp that I have by using the 11 band graphic and the high and low band compressors in it.

Jeff, the link says both volume and tone are 1000k. Which is it? Sounds H U G E ! !

It used to be wired all 1000k ohm pots ... I had 2 or 3 basses wired that way ... but now I prefer 500k ohm volume pots and 1000k ohm tone pots ... it mellows the sound just a little but it still has the treble bite ...

That is one of the tricks of the pre 1990 4001/4003 basses ... they had 150k ohm volume pots with 500k ohm tone pots and single coil pickups ... that combination made them more edgy ... the same trick works with humbuckers and the 500k ohm volume and 1000k ohm tone pots ...

When I converted my black Laredo to VVT I had Bayou cables make me drop in pot setup(pre-soldered), I specified 1 5/8" spacing between pots, 500K vol pots, 1000K tone pot, 4" of wire to the jack. This was because Jeff had made me curious about the sound and I'm really happy with the way it turned out, hb1's sound a touch more clearer with lots of growl.
