HELP......I Want to Clean Up My 4003DCM

Post by mikeyesfan »

My DCM has been getting some playing time and needs a good Cleaning.
What should I use so I don't screw up this Beautiful Bass.

Thanks

Carnauba wax is one choice for making a Ric look really nice ... :)

I was working on a 2005 jetglo 4004 and I set it next to my 1993 4004 and the old one looked better even with the various chips and dings ... why? because it had been polished with carnauba wax ... and the new one had never been waxed or polished.

Use the "SEARCH" feature on this site and search for "Scratch X" and Zymol". Using these two products in the order mentioned will yield fabulous results . The first product, properly applied, will remove all hazing, including the small amount present on all new Rickenbackers. The second product, Zymol, is the best darned carnauba wax made. These two products and their use and application have been discussed exhaustively in several threads. It's well worth your while to dig a bit deeper!

Way to Go Joe!

I figure I might as well enjoy it.
I LOVE the neck, it's perfect for my small hands.

Thanks,
I wasn't sure I should use the Scratch X on a NEW Bass.
This is the kinda phase that worries me "properly applied"
I'm a dork with 2 left hands. Lol

I don't plan on taking off the Pickguard...
Should I do anything to clean the pickguard????

I'll search..
Thanks

I play mine out too. It gets a lot of comments. Many Rick players have still never seen one in person, the finish and the gold plastic always impress!

Searching will tell you what you need to "properly apply". With either or both hands. When I got my first new Rick (which was also my first Rick--a MB 660/12), the very first thing I did was to remove strings, guard, and electronics, and all the hardware, and give it the Scratch-X treatment. It's still the best way to get the "wet look" without any special tools or equipment, except a screwdriver and soldering iron.

Nowadays, I pull the hardware and use the floor-standing buffer that I've bought since then, and the same abrasives and polishes--Menzerna--that RIC uses at the factory.

But, you don't have to go whole hog, Scratch-X and Zymol are great for guards, too. So, leave the hardware on and use them.

OK just back from Pep Boys..Manny and Moe ; )

The Last question is ..
do I scratch-x up the whole Bass first then Zymol it?

or do I do both Scratch x and Zymol to the back, then front, headstock?

I'm Not taking off the pick guard or the strings.
I hope to get to it today or tommarrow.

Thanks again for the Help.

What happened to Jack?
Anyway, Scratch-X the whole shebang first. Then Zymol. You should apply a minimum of three coats of zymol, buffing out between coats with a soft cotton cloth. NO synthetics--they scratch. I use diapers. For buffing, I mean.
