To open or not to open (the case)
My brother in law lived in the USA for half a year. During this period I took the opportunity to let him order a 4001c64JG. Today she arrived at Schiphol Airport. How long does she have to stay in the case before I can open it? And whats best to get her used to home temperatures? Do I leave the case in the -slightly warmer than outside- garage first?

Re: To open or not to open (the case)
Congratulations on your new Rick. I would think 48 hours would be plenty to let her acclimate in the case, in the house but not next to the heat register, if you know what i mean. I would want to inspect it closely as soon as possible in case there is any shipping damage issues that would need to be addressed.
Re: To open or not to open (the case)
I would bring it right into the house. Keep it far away from any heat source. Wait 24 hours, than open it.

These guys have good advice. The waiting is the hardest part, but bring it inside and wait.
Congratulations! You're gonna love your new bass.

Agreed. A short wait for this instrument to warm up over a couple of days sure beats cracked and flaking finish for years to come.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

(Thanx for answering everybody! The waiting will be difficult indeed.)

Bert: If you did that it would be a cold case.

Re: To open or not to open (the case)
I opened a case yesterday when I shouldn't have. It came from southern Alabama, where I imagine it is kinda chilly, and I'm in Tampa, where it's like 75degF and sunny (sorry to rub it in). The box was very well packed, but had some separations on the sides. I opened the box, took out the case, it felt cool. I rolled the dice and opened the case. But I don't recommend that. I just got lucky.

Yeah, what was in the case?!

Re: To open or not to open (the case)
I just had a bass shipped on one of the coldest days. I probably sat in the truck all night. I waited about 5 hours and then I checked the temp. of the case. It felt room temp. I gently opened the case carefully waiting for a cool air burst, but no. I slid my hand in to touch the bass. Again room temp. I opened the case and started to play. The bass (wood) was not cold to the touch, but the bridge was cold. Everything A-OK.

I just got one shipped to me this week ... it was 45 outside so not a huge temp difference ... but I let it sit in the case for a few hours anyway ...
The biggest problem I have is humidity. It is hard to keep the humidity in my house up to 35% all winter long here in the Denver area. I run several humidifiers to keep it from getting really dry. But the upside of Denver is we don't get the high humidity spike in the summer.
I wonder what people in Las Vegas and Phoenix do when the humidity goes down to single digits.

I know most of you like Rick pics, so here is one:

That's just as much as I am going to see forthcoming hours.
