I'll take a shot of the back when the light is better.
It's less figured than the top.
BTW- how do you upload pics in a larger size ?

I'm not a big BBR fan but that 381 is real purdy. I wouldn't complain about that figuring at all.

For high res pics I upload to photobucket and link from there.

This is my first post on this forum, Sorry.
I kind of got kicked off the official Ric forum for not worshiping at the Ric alter. I was commenting on a thread on that forum when the esteemed CEO figured the smart thing to do was lock my account. I just happen to disagree with the line that we should be happy to find a nut every now and then as if we were blind squirrels. The fact that the rest of the cronies jumped on the band wagon made me feel that there was no objectivity to be had there.

Figured maple isn't as hard to come by as they want to make it seem. Mr. Hall says that the "luck of the draw" is good enough for customers who paid the up charge for a nice piece of wood. I'm here to tell you it isn't that hard to sort wood and find the nice grain, For them to suggest that if we want perfection to buy plastic borders on ridiculous.
I looked at the guys pictures that started this thread on both forums, and he is right to complain, just don't say so over there or you get locked.
I got accused of not "understanding" what I was talking about. I have worked wood as a hobby for 25 years, this is a bass I built 20 years ago, it shows war wounds, but you get my point.
And no, it wasn't hard to find the wood, there were pallets of the stuff to choose from. And still are to this day. I chose to resaw the piece as I wanted the soft maple for the back do to tone reasons, but I just as easily could have left it solid, I also didn't charge 2k for it.

Yes, I got your original post. Thanks for toning it down. I think our tone is less worshipful than respectful. Although I personally find it very difficult to contain my own enthusiasm for guitars, basses, amps and especially all things Rickenbacker!

Beautiful guitar! Nice flame as well. I also got kicked off the Ric forums for citing QC problems with the fretwork on a 360/12 (also BBR - and with very little by way of figuring...). John Hall doesn't like any sort of criticism, not only regarding the instruments but also when one points out that some of the great Ric artists that they all idolize are really only very mediocre talents.

Thanks for your opinion.

The point has been made in the RIC Forum and bears repeating here:

If you've got an axe to grind with Rickenbacker, its products or principals, a public forum is not the place to do it--you should discuss matters with RIC customer service. Criticism of RIC artists on this forum and the RIC forum, walks a narrow line between constructive and destructive, and in any event artist critiques are a matter of personal opinion and negative ones can do nothing except offend.

We're here to celebrate Rickenbackers, the people who make them, and the folks who play them, whether famous or otherwise...

Gelon and Marty,

The RRF rules expressly prohibit bringing an issue from any other forum here for debate. They also expressly forbid links to other forums. You will no doubt notice that I have removed a link that was posted.

Here are our rules. I draw your attention to rules #4, #6 and #7. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=391087

Thank you in advance for your future cooperation in this regard.

Too true P, B & S, too true.

And while we're celebrating Rickenbacker and 660s and Bluebursts - in the tradition of JPS himself, here's mine (again!).
