Isn't it a little late in the game to still be celebrating Rush ? I mean, when I was in high school and college, early in my drumming career, I wanted to be Neil Peart, and I got pretty decent at playing a handful of their songs, but I am so over it by now. I am much more interested in musical mood and melody, and Rush lost that long ago, if they ever had it at all. Of course they're great, but who really cares anymore.

Have you not heard Snakes & Arrows? They kind got some of the melody back. Great album either way.
They're probably still celebrated because they've been going strong for more than 30 years with the same members. How many other bands can say that? And it's probably the thing that they're 5th in gold records or something. Very loyal fanbase.

"Musical mood and melody" mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people Steve....to each their own.

Hey Scott,

Anytime you want to "celebrate" Rush, please go right ahead and post your thoughts. I'm a big fan of everything up to and including "Moving Pictures" and some of the stuff that followed and I also enjoyed their new release very much. I used to see them in Pittsburgh's Stanley Theatre before they got huge, back in the good ol' days. That's what this forum is about; don't let negative thinkers discourage you!

I'm sure Scott understands why Rush would be made fun of. One thing I have learned, being a music fan, is that, if you love a band, you know the good and the not-so-good about them, and you understand why people don't like them or make fun of them. Rush did some great albums, but I have heard way too many guys, and only guys, gushing on and on about their chops and technical playing. Many of Rush's relatively recent attempts to play more melodic and mainstream music have been pretty darn hokey. Anyway, celebrate away. I watched Exit Stage Left several times in the last year, and I love it because the songs are great, and Geddy's voice is in top form. After this period, they were never great again, and increasingly hokey, but I think we all know that - it's been said by thousands and thousands for moons and moons.

Yeah, that's another complaint - please bring back the 4001JG ! It was more musical sounding than all of his subsequent rigs.

Geddy did bust out the old Rick for "A Passage To Bangkok" on the S&A tour (leg#1) .
The only thing is that he ran it mono and it lost some of that sound that he once had when it was his main bass and ran it in stereo. There is a HUGE difference in running the Rickenbacker bass in stereo as opposed to mono.
I do have one boot of the S&A tour and the Rickenbacker in that song does sound GREAT though.

From that photo, it looks like that's a BadAss 2 bass bridge, as opposed to the original BadAss.
At least he's upgraded the Rick. Surely a GOOD sign...... LOL!!!
