What amp did Paul Weller use?
In the early days of the Jam 76-78?
Re: What amp did Paul Weller use?
Thanks for the link Scotty.I saw them at CBGB's theater in 1978.I think it was 78(?)Great show! I didn't know too much about Rickenbackers then(except that I wanted one)but I remember Paul playing a 330 that I thought was Mapleglo but I have never seen a photo of him with a Mapleglo Ric.I didn't know Ric colors then so I distinctley remember think "Wow,a blonde Rickenbacker, never saw one of those".I could have been mistaken or he may have borrowed a guitar for that show but I would really like to know what he was playing that night.

This pic is from Birmingham 1979. He also used a Mapleglo 330 on Top of The Pops around the same time - I'll try and post a screen grab later.

Now your just showing off but the question is what guitar was he playing at the CBGBs theater in 78.If you know the answer youve got too much time on your hands and I want to know how you know
Re: What amp did Paul Weller use?
Sorry to disappoint, but I can only do 1977 - and it looks like a Fireglo.

Or could be Burgundyglo.
Re: What amp did Paul Weller use?
Thanks for the posts,I am not sure of the date I saw them(I thought 78 but it may have been 77)but I am pretty sure that it was a Mapleglo 330.I remember the clothes they were wearing too, light camel have colored suits.Hard to see in the photo but maybe the same as the one in the (top)photo. Thanks alot for the photos. That Mapleglo Rickenbacker made a big impression on me the night I saw them.It is probably one the reasons I am hear today.godber wrote:This pic is from Birmingham 1979. Re: What amp did Paul Weller use?
Just picked up this thread. I know exactly what colour guitar Weller palyed at CBGBs (late 1977) because I own it! It's a fireglo 1974 Rickenbacker. It's the one that went on to have "I AM NOBODY" scratched into the paintwork. Checkout out the following youtube clip of the Weller playing Strange Town with the fireglo Ricky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT2SoC9H2vQ
