Brian, does it come with knobs? A set of pre-'70 knobs would look nice on it.

No knobs with it. I might have to try those.

I just checked the tracking number and the bass is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I ordered some new knobs from Mike Parks. I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow. I can't wait!

The last picture is pretty fuzzy, but my batteries died, so its the best I can do for now. Anyways, I think I'm going to keep this one. I like the neck profile much better than my '07, and the color is just way cool. There is some discoloration, notably on the back of the neck, and when I took the pickguard off to check it out, you could see just a little bit of yellowing compared to under the guard, but not much. The case has a foot missing and has some dings, so I might replace it eventually, but maybe not. Now I just need a black treble pickup cover. Anybody have one?

Also, should a bass like this with black hardware have a black jack plate? This one has a chrome one placing it as being built in May of '95. Also, I guess I can tell everybody that I got it for $750 + $20 shipping. Not bad. Not bad at all. It may be the best deal I've ever made.

That's a great price Brian...about half of what it's worth. Good luck finding a black pup cover. They're hard to find. Congrats!

Yes, it does look like a good deal. The seller had no clue of the current new and used values. When you factor in inflation it gets even worse. Hopefully he's not a friend? :)

Actually, he was fully aware of how much they are going for, but he just wanted to get out of it what he had paid for it. I offered him more, but he said he wasn't comfortable taking more than what he paid. Anyways, its staying with me. I dig it too much to let it go.

Great looking bass and great (read: a steal) price. I echo Steve about the luck needed to find a black cover. They are actually just black plastic. Possibly what all covers are before the plating process?

Fair enough, Brian. My (virtual) hat is off to you. It is nice to have those deals come around at least once.

Yeah, there was a black cover on ebay not too long ago, but I wasn't sure I was going to get the bass at that time, so I didn't bid on it. Now I'm shooting myself in the foot. I might just have to get a chrome one in the meantime.

Brian, I wasn't implying anything underhanded on your part as to the price, just saying it was a real bargain. As to the black cover missed on eBay - hindsight is always 20/20! :D You could paint a chrome one black while waiting for a real one to show up again I suppose.

Dull up the chrome on a standard pick up cover with 500 grit sand paper. Primer it and shoot it with Plasticoat #1100 gloss black. It'll look better than the rest of the black trim on the bass.
