Lets talk wiring?

Post by qmoder »

Well I did it I did it. I bought a brand new 360 Jetglo six string to convert to a 370 six string that will match my 370 twelve string thats in Jetglo. I'm not gonna rush the project though. I want to take my time and not make any goof up's if I can keep from it.
One of the things that I'm thinking of about it now is how to wire it. I could just copy the wiring done in my 370 twelve string and that would be the easy way out as its right there in front of you. But I am interested in having a volume control for each pickup and a master tone control. I would also like to keep the fifth knob control stock and independent of the middle pickup. The bridge and neck pickup already have their own volume control so I'm half way there in a manner of speaking.
So does any one have a good diagram of this method? Remember I'm pretty dense on electrical symbals.

I guess everybody is out until the holidays are over or they might be playing their new Rickenbacker's. I have been playing mine. Of course I already have a 360. But the pickups on this one are different. But then again so is the other set of highgains that I bought. Ric must change these things out pretty regularly?

Do you want the middle pickup tied to the neck pickup at the selector switch? Do you want mono or stereo (Rick-O-Sound) output? If you notice the current way a 370/340 is wired the two neck and middle pickups are wired in parallel. The fith knob is basicly a second volume pot in series with other volume pot, redundant IMO. One way to wire the fifth knob as a volume control for the middle pickup allows you to add it to no matter which pickup is selected. I can draw you a schematic based on your preferences.

How about a five way switch, rotary or otherwise, so you could gbet all of the cool "out of phase" positions among the three pickups the way a Stratocaster does? I always thought that would be a cool thing to have with a 3 PU Rick. All of mine are two pickup models.

I thought about the rotary and out of phase sounds. But I already have seven Strats for that. This Ric does not sound my 03 Monty 360. This one is a bit more of that jangle of Ric sound that you think about when you hear the word Ric. My other 360 bites much harder. I have noticied too that this other set of higains that I have to use as the middle pickup are different in design too. Do Ric must fairly frequently in the scheme of things redesign these higain pickups very few years.
I'm not really sure how the 370 Twelve that I've got is wired. But I have a feeling that they are all on with the selector switch in the middle. The iifth knob seems to work in all of the positions. Odd perhaps but true.
I probably could just copy it and would still have quite a different six striing animal on my hands. But what I would like to have is the middle pickup tied to the mid position of the selector switch. In that position to have the bridge pickup volume control active, have the second volume control active for the middle pickup, and the knob neaest to the pickguard's tone control be the volume control for the neck pickup. Then have the other tone control acting as a master volume control for all three pickups, and last just to leave the fifth knob alone. I have no real idea of how to make that work though.
I do remember that we used to have one member on here that described something simular he had build that he thought that Lennon's orginal 325 had in it prior to its last american refit post Beatles. I know too that Lennon said that while he liked his new Miami model that it did not sound like his orginal.

Whoa! Seven Strats?! Now I don't feel so bad for owning three, and thinking I'd like a fourth in Fiesta Red. :D
