New Year's Eve with my 660

Post by steambyrd »

We had a New Year's gig at the local Fraternal Order of Eagles, and it is the first gig where my 660 was my primary guitar. I have used it for a few songs in the past, but always went back to my American Strat for just about everything else. Well, the 660 just rings out so well, even my wife commented how much better some of the songs sounded. I primarily play rhythm guitar, but on the few songs where I play lead, I still gravitate back to the Strat. With time, I may feel comfortable at lead on the 660.
Anyway, the gig was bitter-sweet; I loved the sound, but the crowd was very small this year compared to last; primarily due to a smoking ban the state of Ohio passed this year. Even worse, my partner tripped over his cord and knocked my Tele off its stand right on it's face and broke the selector switch. Thankfully, no other damage that I can see. Oh well, we got paid well, sounded pretty good, and got home safe and sound, so I guess it was a pretty good night overall!
Happy New Year!

Thanks, Jim. Now I just need to find a new Fender 3 position switch for my '62 custom Tele re-issue, and I should be back in business. :)

At the gigs I do with my friend Chris that we do for friends who come out to hear us, we make sure our cords are all out of the way, and our guitars are all in a different part of the room. We're very cautious about our instruments.

Jim, what I'd do is check eBay for a selector switch, but I'm glad to hear you had fun on your 660. Which one did you use?

Jim, maybe your partner needs a wireless system!
Fortunately it was just a selector switch that was damaged. Those are easily replaced.
People will eventually get used to the non smoking laws and frequent the social venues again.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Jake, I used my MID 660 for the gig, and was very happy with it. He already has taken the Tele to the luthier who works on our guitars for the switch fix. Joey, you make a very good point for going wireless. My partner tends to be somewhat old school. I tried for a couple of years to talk him into in-ear monitors instead of the wedges we have in front of us. He won't budge, claiming he wants to hear the crowd, too. Lately, I think he has suffered major hearing loss because he has the monitors cranked so high, it makes my ears hurt. I don't see how he is hearing anything from the crowd. I keep sneaking the volume down, but I guess I'm going to have to put in the ear plugs I have to save what's left of my hearing.
