Sir Paul McCartney has had a secret heart operation, it was revealed last night.
The 65-year-old had a coronary angioplasty, which opens up arteries and allows greater flow of blood.
It was performed in a private hospital in the autumn (WEBMASTER'S NOTE: It was originally reported that he saw the Harley St. doctor in early August) after he saw a Harley Street specialist at the London Clinic. The former Beatle is said to have recovered well.
Macca appeared on Jools Holland's BBC2 New Year Special and sang his hit "Dance Tonight" with Kylie Minogue.
It had been rumoured for months that Macca had heart problems. A close friend said: "Paul felt there was something not quite right and luckily sought professional help.
"It's not something that can be left to chance. Thankfully the operation went well and Paul feels great."
In the procedure surgeons pass a fine tube in through the groin and up to the aorta. A small balloon at the end of the tube is inflated to squash fatty deposits clogging the arteries.
Around 40,000 angioplasty ops are carried out every year in the UK.

Macca and estranged wife Heather Mills, 39, face a five-day High Court hearing next month to thrash out a divorce settlement.

Kind of surprising, really. I guess that vegetarians are just as susceptible to heart disease as anyone else.

My father had angioplasty a handful of years ago. He and John Lennon were born a few weeks apart. My mother is the same age as Paul McCartney.
My dad felt something odd in his chest after getting up and doing things in the morning. He'd seen his friends die from heart attacks because they took too long to go to the hospital or call 911, so he didn't mess around. Only one blood vessel had an issue, like something caught and then the build up started. Too much damage occurs over time and you can get to a point of no return. Best to play it safe.

As i read this thread, i am reminded of my fathers premature death from heart attack at the age of 61. He didn't have time to get to a hospital as he died almost immediately! I"m always happy for those who actually have the chance to do something about it when the signs of an impending attack reveal themselves!
Also, i can't see any of the earlier comments as "petty",.. thats the last thing i would say about the kind of people on this forum! Try "lighthearted fun".
