I missed it 3 times. I going to get it.

Post by ric330 »

I've missed delivery 3 times on my new 330 AFG.
I'm on my way to get it now at the transfer station.
And then I get to stare at a box for a while
It's pretty cold here (and I'm sure it is in a cold in the transfer station warehouse) and I'm going to have to be patient as others have to view and play her.

This is one of those times when patience is really a virtue that is rewarded.

What an ordeal!

Wednesday night 8:30 supposebly they knocked and left a notice...NOT!

Thurday Night I arrive home to find a Notice on the door 2nd attempt (first I've known it was even a 1st attempted)

I call Thursday night and tell them to hold it, I'll pick it up on friday - they say "OK" in short.

I call Friday Morning to check ... "It is on the truck sir" ... But I requested it be held for pickup???? Duh?
"Call back in an hour sir and I get this staightened out" ... which I did. At that time they said "Sorry it is on truck out for delivery" ... well does that mean even though I requested to hold it at the facility you make an attempt anyway because it is on the truck?
" I'm sorry sir, but it is on the truck so they will attempt another delivery".

So I take off work early and find no slip at the door. Great I didn't miss it...NOT!

So friday 8:30pm rolls around and I give them a call. "sir it is out for delivery and our drivers are out sometimes as late as 10:00pm".
So I can still figure it coming? "I'm sorry sir but our records show that it is on the truck and the driver will make an attempt for delivery".

GEEZ... I just want my Rick. I trying to stay cooool :x  8)

OK So I call back about 9: 45pm - Where is the package? "sir our records show you requested them to leave it at the facility for pickup"
But But BUT..... Biting my tongue OK where do I pick it up tomorrow and what time do they open?
"we're very sorry sir about this - you can pick it up after 8:00 am at this address..."

Now granted I am talking to a different representative every time and they seem to have access to the driver :? :?

Friday night is now a wash and I just didn't feel like going over to a Jam session that began an hour earlier.
Didn't sleep much and got up early drove over to the facility, just to find out the warehouse is not open until 10:00am.
So I go back home biting my tongue again and hold out for my next trip to the Transfer station.

OK 9:30 rolls around - I'm on my way again.
"Sir your package is at our other facility" Ah.... :? :x I'm givin' instuctions and I'm off>>>>>>>>>

Here's where it gets weird.

Now The first facility where I was instucted to go had a small door you go in and your at the counter - no fuss no muss.

The Facility I was instructed to go to, where my Rick was, has a:
Guarded parking gate, specific parking place, metal detector you must step through with guard to get into the warehouse, a long walk in the facility to finally a counter clerk,
and a seated waiting area so they can find your package while you wait. What the F#*%? - excuss my French.

Geez.. Give me my Rick already :!:

Finally...THE BOX.... It's a Gibson Carton... Got to love it.
But it is marked for me and states Rick on the outside. I GOT IT!

Now I can stare at the box for a while.
At least the Warehouse was reasonably warm and the box doesn't feel cold at all.
I just got home... the wait begins.

Reached in and the case is not at all cold to the touch. I'm pulling the case out of the box and letting it aclimate in my cool basement.
I'll post some pictures when I finally pull it out of the case. I'm going to have to leave the house or I'm going to be too tempted

A similar thing happened with Federal Distress when I was waiting
for delivery of my 381/12BBR.
I waited at home all day; no show, Website said they had tried to deliver
but no one was home.
It's been a real long time since I was in an altered state, but I know darn well
I was home waiting for my guitar!

Driver told me the next day he got lost. I found that hard to believe when I
have arrow signs with my name and addy all the way up my road.
It's so well marked even I can find my home

Anyway- glad you finaly got it :)

"It's so well marked even I can find my home"
That's funny.

Yeh I was home right inside the door on the so called first attempt. No Knock, No notice.

I've actually come to know the UPS guy who does the deliveries in my area. What can I say? I've been buying too much gear these last few years. The upside of this is that he always knows when and where to find me. He's a good guy and I hope he stays with UPS for a while yet.

The unpredictable world of courier delivery. What bothers me even more than the frustration of missing a guitar, is the additional exposure to the elements. This is sometimes an extended period of cold much like keeping a guitar in your trunk for several days or repeated hot/cold changes which arguably is worse.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

You sure are right Peter.
I've seen a guitar that was left in a truck from a long road trip across the US that was very sad indeed.
The finish acquired some bad checking and you could feel the fret ends along the fingerboard enough to require some tideous filing.
Oh ..it wasn't a Rick :D
We know better.

I located a 1979 4001 FG for a friend of mine on the west coast, and the shop arranged to have it delivered to him via courier, signature required upon receipt, etc. I thin they used the guys in the lovely brown shorts. He got home from work on the day that delivery was expected and thought it strange that there was no 'Sorry we missed you' notice on his door. Before using the tracking number, he went to the back door to let his cat out in the yard and there on the back porch was a bass sized box. Luckily, it was fairly mild and no rain that day.

It must be frustrating to have missed the delivery 3 times!
You'll be happy that you waited to open the box. Looking forward to your pics
Congrats and enjoy it!

Must have been pretty aggravating having to wait for your new instrument.

Fortunately, I can have the instruments I order sent to my mom's work office, and she takes them home as soon as they arrive. I can also have them sent to my Grandma's house (aka the place I rehearse most of the time), and I can be right there when they arrive. Hasn't happened yet, but once I get a new instrument, it sure will!

Rest easy these are flukes. They gotta be. I'm sure the majority have received their Ricks with no problems.
