Do we know more about the history of the 12 string with the atypical headstock? JWilli?
Well, it appeared on Ebay a few years ago and most everyone figured it was just a repaired headstock. It turns out that it wasn't. It came from the factory that way. It was verified by John Hall and the original owner, who had put her social security number (very lightly, on the clear coat) on the back of the neck. It was most likely a test model for the 12 string. The neck has a square heel so it was probably built in '63 or at least the neck was. The guitar is in near mint shape, except for the top pickguard, which has a piece missing.

I've always wanted an early 12 string and I'd imagine that this example was one of the first half dozen made. May of '64. We know of the Arden 12 string, Harrison's and Campbell's 620/12, Marsden's. I've checked Bjorn's site for early 12 string (1993 model) serial numbers and mine predates every one that he has listed. Maybe one or two of Townshend's were earlier. I wish I had the info on his.

Those are Reals (Brasilian bongo bux)...they are actually going up in value as the dollar takes a s**t.

Notice they're all same size, whereas Euros vary according to denomination.

About 3 years ago I thought I was in the market for one of these, boy was I wrong! They are just not out there. Marty Wilson Piper of The Church had one made for him in the early 90's, white pickguards I recall, went for far more than the $2000 I had. Don't think it was because it belonged to him, it was the pure rarity of it.
