Peter,
1996 is a reissue of a Rose Morris model import edition of Rickenbackers, characterized by an F hole, and not a year

In this case, 1996 is a model of guitar, not a year of manufacture. Production on the 1996 reissue was limited to the year 2007. All of those guitars (save for a couple of Jetglo ones?) were Amber Fireglo. The best way to distinguish AFG is to look at: 1) the binding (if any); 2) the fret markers (they'll appear to be much darker than usual); and, 3) the centre of the guitar, which will appear (you guessed it) more "ambered". Some folks say it makes the transition in the burst much smoother and more appealing. I have no complaints about original Fireglo (including the pink ones) so your mileage may vary on that point.

It looks richer in person. Picture do it no justice. It is more amber in the center and maybe darker in the reds.
I think people may be referring to the model 1996. I may be wrong though.

Very nice 330 there, and I love the slide show, nice touch.

Ric330 & Sloopdawg >>>> Thanks for your kind words. The slideshow does bring home the point about how sublime this 330/12 AFG can be. I played it for three and a half hours today as I worked on a couple of originals plus a whole slew of Byrds' tunes. Practice, practice, practice! Best regards....Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

David that's a pretty cool strap in the case with your 330 12. How do you like the HiGains with the 12 string. I've only tried the 12 strings with toasters.
It a beaut!

I own no AFG Ricks. It is a nice color, but the yellow binding and fret markers throw me off big time. Before I stumbled on the chance to buy my 660/12TP, I was actually wanted a 660/12 in AFG. I plan to buy no AFG guitars, as I'm a fan of the older Rics (don't ask me why).

Why? Oh sorry. You said don't ask.

Yeah, dig it, Ric330. I have several of those straps from the same company. Indestructo! Believe they can withstand natural disasters and the like. He-he. You got me curious about it, though. Looked through my cases and found that one attached to my Gretsch G6120 Chet. I keep straps on my guitars when they're encased. Lazy boy, I guess. Used the Gretsch Chet Atkins for the winter holiday pageant performance on campus three weeks ago. They are Jerry Garcia straps. Each one depicts a sample of Jerry's artistic sensibilities.ric330 wrote:David that's a pretty cool strap in the case with your 330 12. How do you like the HiGains with the 12 string. The High-Gains are the bomb, man. They nail that modern sound, yet can also retain some of the 60's vibe. The vibe is enhanced with a simple chain from the Hi-Gains to a JangleBox to my tube amps. My Rics also seem to like my Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer (from Japan) and Roger Mayer Fuzz Face Classic (from England). Both are over 20 years old but keep on truckin'. They don't make 'em like they used to as some would say. I am thinking about swapping out the Hi-Gains for Toasters® on one of my 6-strings and on one of my 12-strings. It's food for thought. Can't do it right now because Toasters® are unavailable at the Ric boutique and even at shops like POTR.
Listen to this, if you haven't already. I can get this sound that DE gets in this video. He's playing a 330/12 with Hi-Gains but I don't know how he set up his chain. Best regards....Goofyfoot.

Hi Peter
Given their backlog I suspect RIC still have a lot of AFG's to ship.
If you think its the colour for you, keep checking shipments on RIC's website.
Just remember, pics of the AFG don't do it justice and it also appears that different models have different shades of AFG.
Here's my 620 and 330.

Here's the difference between Fireglo and Amber Fireglo:-
Re: Amber Fire Glow. Was it a popular color?
Amber Fireglo is right behind Dark Cherry Metallic in the Register and I suspect that the registrations will be increasing steadily. The idea of this finish is a great one and I would like to know who thought of this "yesterday today" finish.
Darren, thanks for sending along this great photo which nicely illustrates the difference between these two finishes. As with most photos, this one is worth more than 1000 words. Enthusiasm, pride, sharing and friendship were all captured in a split second. Surely an "amberglo" moment.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
