Rickenbacker Acoustics - Stopped production?

Post by ric330 »

Hello all,
I'm trying to find out whether I understand correctly...Are the Rickenbacker acoustics no longer available?
Has the production stopped and at this point in time - no foreseeable future acoustics being made by Rickenbacker?
If that's the case It seems I missed out on something special. :(

Our very own Paul Wilczynski is currently crafting Rickenbacker acoustic models. I'm sure he'll chime in here with some information for you. Here is an example of his work.

I didn't think Paul was still doing them.
I thought they had stopped and that's why the price on some of the used ones had reached upwards of $6000 for a black one just mentioned in a recent post.
This is some really fine workmanship. Tell me more about Paul. Does he or did he work for Rickenbacker? There are going to be some really happy owners of those receiving the acoustics in their last stages of completion.

By the way who is Mike Parks? Is he a dealer for Rickenbackers or a private owner with impeccable taste!

I didn't know that was Mike.
I just bought my Vintage silver tolex case for my 360 and some other goodies from Mike - I didn't know his last name.
He's a really great guy to do business with.

I've bought two new Rickenbackers from Mike Parks, my 360CW JG and my 730L MG, and he's one great guy to deal with.

There should be another thread or two about Paul's finely crafted acoustics; he will be building me a Comstock 12-string Blueburst, hopefully later this year. I have some pictures at home of Paul's acoustics that he brought to last year's SoCalCon which I'll post those later.

The brown one is the foreground is actually mine, and was made at the factory rather than by Paul. The others pictured are PW models.

Is he still taking orders for acoustics?
These are really fine examples of pride and workmanship put into a product that can be not only fabulous to look at but played....
Oh, I want one

What do you call this one?:

I'd love one of these with no pickguard for fingerstyle...How long is the line?
What scale length are used for these acoustics?

Because Paul hasn't yet spoken up, the RIC factory last produced acoustics in 2005. RIC's production of acoustics took a hit when the luthier that made them was redirected to work on the Lemmy's and then completely stopped when the luthier left RIC completely. Since then, no orders have been taken or models produced by RIC.

RickResource forum member JingleJangle (Paul W) is an amazing luthier and painter in his own right and helped RIC by making the TRCs and pickguards for the 75th anniversary Models in 2006. Due to his close relationship with RIC, CEO John Hall has allowed Paul to recreate and make some 700 and 730 acoustic models and put Rickenbacker on the models. So far, Paul's models have been breathtakingly gorgeous and painstakingly faithful to the factory models. Plus, with Paul, you get to pick any hue that you and he can come up with, which is a flexibility that the economies of scale at the RIC factory cannot do at this time.

I am sure that if I have misstated any information, either Paul or John will fix it at some point.

Kenny, thanks for the correction (I did remember that you had your gear on the other side of that table, but forgot that your acoustic was with Paul's).

Kevin, that appears to be a 730L Laramie. Here are some pictures of my 2000 730L MG:

And, it is not for sale.
