Finger Rest Position

Hello-

I got a tug bar/finger rest from Pickguardian for my 4005. I assume the angled portion faces away from the strings, yes?

Amazing. This is the first group I've interacted with that actually know what a 4005 is.

It is a 1967 bona-fide 4005H Fireglo. I bought it at a pawn shop in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee in 1985. I saw it in the window and knew it was mine. Evidently a touring musician got stranded in town and needed cash. I played it, talked to the owners, let them stew for a month, then talked them down to $225. Original case included. Even for a poor university student that was a good deal, but of course no one knew what a 4005 was worth then.

It has been used. The finish was already cracking when I got it and there were already several dings and scratches on it, but everything is in fine working condition. I have made significant use of it, too. It is my baby, getting almost every sort of tone I want out of it.

When the output jack started acting up, I installed a stereo jack and re-wired the output. I swapped the small blend pot for a switch so I can go from mono to quasi Rick-O-Sound. The moon eyes were to cover the tug bar holes, but I've left them on for the heck of it now that I have the finger rest installed. I changed to stainless allen head screws on the bridge and replaced the pickguard screws. That's about all, other than quite a bit of cleaning up the shiny bits. I've been out of country for a few years, so it has sat unused for a while.

I need to eventually get the truss rods tweaked, but I'm waiting to figure out what strings I want to use. That is another thread, though. Strings and a new nut are next.

I confess to still want a Mapleglo or plain red 4001, but recently I fulfilled another long-sought desire:

It is a 1979 MusicMan Stingray fretless. Just before MusicMan started having inventory problems and before Ernie Ball bought them out. I now get all the sounds I ever wanted from these two basses alone.

Once I recover from the MusicMan purchase, I might have to go collecting...
