It's a one of a kind and a masterpiece. There have been so many superlatives and adjectives that I will not even attempt to add another.

I will say however a simple thank you for sharing your creation with us. I have enjoyed this immensely.

I felt a range of appreciative emotions, reading everyone's comments, and finished off with a hearty guffaw! at Aitch's zinger.

(Aitch told me that many have guffawed at his zinger, but he made me promise not to tell...)

Heartfelt thanks to all my fellow Forumites for their positive support. I've often tried to analyze exactly why I'm always messin' with the mix. I do enjoy setting a challenge for myself and then working to meet it. I feel a sense of accomplishment, of course, seeing the fruit of so much toil sitting on its Hercules stand in front of my desk. Its new Ameritage case arrives tomorrow.

And a good deal of my pleasure comes from displaying my work to comments, both constructive and appreciative, from anyone with something to say, so thanks to all! And I promise to keep setting challenges and then whacking away at them, so we all can learn and enjoy.

The 200-year-old walnut chunk was an Ebay find, Bob. There's a family that owns a lumberyard which deals in specialty wood like this. I buy new walnut weekly; compared to this slab, the new stuff is like bleached balsa. This is a rich brown, dense as heck. The piece is something like 2" X 10" X 48" and it must weight 40 pounds. Judging from the surface, it was cut and planed a loooong time ago, too.
