Can anyone help with Cakewalk/Sonar HS boo-boo?

Post by steambyrd »

I apologize if this has been answered before; I tried search, but didn't see anything exactly like my problem. I am still using Cakewalk Home Studio 2002, and have had few problems in the past, other than dropouts. I sometimes download midi files of classic rock songs and make them Home Studio projects, stripping out the guitar and melody parts, and then adding my own guitar and vocals. Yesterday I downloaded a file, and couldn't hear it playback. I then opened some older projects, and couldn't hear them either in midi playback. I checked the output of the tracks and discovered they weren't automatically going to Soundfont to play, but had all changed to my Audigy SG synth out. If I manually change each track back to Soundfont, they play just fine.
I don't know what I did to change the output, and I also don't know how to restore my old settings. I have tried Windows XP system restore at several different restore points, but that didn't help. As you can tell, I am not exactly a PC expert. Can someone give this dummy some easy way to get back to where I was before 2 pm yesterday?

There is an option to select the specific midi device you would like. Select that rather than on a per track basis. Both options work but the track by track method can be tedious.

Where is that option you may ask? I don't have HS 2002 loaded on my system anymore but for HS6 is is located in Options-Midi Devices. Good luck.
