I downloaded it, and just for a second, you see that Paul is playing his Rickenbacker 4001. It's at about 2:16 into the video, and it only lasts about 2 seconds.
I took a picture of the screen with my digital camera. I just wonder which bass we hear in the video?
You can see the Rickenbacker in the background leaning near the drums in the background when they're playing "Two of Us". It's weird, because in the background of that video he had already sanded off the paint on the body. Did he leave the back of the neck unsanded, or did he do that in the middle of the Let It Be sessions?
I was just listening to Get Back (naked) on the radio the other day a thought the hofner sounded exceptional... Maybe it was Rick I was hearing. Now that would be cool!
I would be willing to bet it was the Ric, it sounds in tune, and also has some bottom to it, and does not sound like the rest of the stuff on the album. It's got one of the best bass and production sounds on the album for me. Actually I think there are three different types of basses on that album, I'll bet he uses his Jazz also.
Actually the high notes are a little sharp aren't they? (I haven't heard it for a while).
That is a nice photo Jon, and again there he is with only the treble pickup on. It seems every photo I see of him with the horseshoe in he only uses the treble pickup.
Well he always used flatwounds back then, I had them on my V-63's before I sold them like an idiot, you could definitely get a lot of bottom with just the bridge pickup with the horseshoes. Even the old 4000's had some good bottom with flats. Just remember 4001's were really a 4000 with an extra pickup added for more bottom, they stood alone well with only the horseshoe to me. (with flats) Rics sound very different with flats on them, especially the old fashioned thumpy type. I have Fender flats on an uncapped 4001 and it sounds like a cross between a P bass and a J bass, better actually. It's my main player out here. Actually I could probably just use the treble pickup on that bass too.
Lifes good, the weather is beautiful here, I'm playing, but I'm looking forward to getting back in the spring (speaking of get back).
