Good old Jon

Post by rickcrazy »

Yesterday I listened to Renaissance's 1978 "A Song For All Seasons" all the way through. I hadn't in six or seven years (shame on me!) It does indeed feature some of the neatest, most awesome, ultimate 4001 tone Jon Camp has ever committed to record. It sounds particularly impressive on headphones. I believe the follow-up, "Azure D'Or" (1979) to be the last Renaissance record to feature a Rick bass, and also the last worth listening to  but that's just my opinion. Cheers.

I agree with everything you said. I saw the Azur D'Or tour and had the opportunity to meet Jon and Annie afterwards!!! :D The title song on A Song For All Seasons is one of their finest compositions, along with Scheherazade, Ocean Gypsy, Midas Man, Can You Hear Me, Can You Understand, Black Flame.... well, you get the idea. :D

Sure glad to see I'm not the only one who loved Renaissance back when they were together. I would rave about the albums I had and get blank looks. I need to get my stereo back together and get my turntable dusted off....

No CDs back in the 70 though! Glow of the tubes, scratch of the needle tracking, darkened room late at night, waking up with the needle in the lead-out track for God knows how long....
