Sweet! Cool that they started off with SOTU - Sabotage is their best album in my opinion. I didn't know Geezer used a Rick that often. By the sound of this live footage, I'm guessing he used it in the studio quite a bit.

This was the bass Glenn Hughes gave to him.

Yup. Traded a T-bird for it. Two of my fave bassists both associated with a 4001.

Check out the cover of Deep Purple's "Made In Europe" to see Glenn playing it....

Mark, Geezer has said he actually didn't like the bass much, so I suspect it wasn't used much. IIRC he only used it on this footage because he forgot the bring the bass he was going to use, or something to that effect. IIRC I also read something that said he always keeps his basses, except for a Rickenbacker which he never used which he traded for something else ( a P-Bass???). I suspect this is that very bass.

Wow. That's bizarre. Oh well. No accounting for taste, I guess.

To see but not to hear. It was a pic from the earlier stages of "Burn" tour and at the time of the recording (spring '75) Glenn had switched to Precision. Great sound anyway and I think Glenn had a better sound using a Fender (Burn vs. Stormbringer, for example).

If Geezer used the Rick only for that gig, Glenn probably used the T-Bird even less!:) Never seen a pic of him playing one but of course at that time he was a bit out to lunch...

BTW, Geezer's see-through Dan Armstrong bass pictured on the inner gatefold of "Vol4" had a somehow similar story:

Yes, I know and I didn't mean you thought he played it on that album. Sorry.

Geezer used John Birch basses for most of his time with BS.
