Anyone have experience with Noise Gates?

Post by Lunawolf »

My 330 and Vox AC-30 give off a pretty loud hum. I've been looking into getting a Noise Gate.

So far, the MXR M-135 Smart Gate has caught my attention. Has anyone had any experience with this pedal? If it isn't good, any other recommendations?

Thanks.

I haven't tried the Smart Gate, but I did buy an Electro-Harmonix hum debugger for my 4003 DCM. I think the bass has a bad ground somewhere that I may try to find someday, but I don't want to damage the electronics in the process. The pedal isn't cheap (around $120), but it works great.

I use the MXR Smart Gate, with the MXR Super Comp, and High Gains (treble cap) on my 360-12. The Smart Gate works nicely, I would definitely recommend it. I wasn't impressed with the Boss equivalent.

Excellent question. Try posting this in the "rampant recording" topic.

I thought AC-30's were born to hum.
My does.
