It looks like the Bluebursts are going to be golden

I believe the Blueburst is going to be the most collectable and valuable of all the COY guitars.

I say this because I talked to someone at rickenbacker who said it was the most requested color behind Montezuma Brown. However Montezuma Brown had a longer run therefore more guitars.

I prefer plaintops myself the flames just don't work in rickenbackers imo. From what I can see if you have a clean grain and a nice burst then you might have a nice little gem. I have seen some ugly wood figuring underneath a few bursts.

Anyway I wasn't interested in the Blueburst myself. I wanted a blueboy. But as I keep looking around for a blueboy its starting to become quite evident that the Blueburst is tough to find, raising in prices, and pretty hot in desirability.

I bet you give it 10 years and these BBR guitars are going to be big $$$

Works for me if the BBR's are worth good money later as I have three of them. I've also got most likely the only BlueBoy 230 around, but thats because I refinished it in that color. Now if I could just get the fretwork done and get it back together so I can use it!

Seagreen will remain the premium COY most probably, because of rarity.

Not well received at the time, but highly thought of now, and becoming a coveted classic. I'm betting if you can find one in ten years time, they will be big $$$.

I think all the early COY's are going to stay the "golden" ones. There are just so many Bluebursts out there. That's not to say they won't still be worth a pretty penny!

I agree with John. The "golden" ones tend to be the least popular. Blue Boy seems to be highly sought after these days, although at the time of its release, demand seemed to be somewhat muted. (I'm speaking anecdotally here. I don't have any hard numbers.)

Sea Green is very rare these days, and when such an instrument becomes available, it always gets pounced on. Maybe it's just the fact that it's more recent, but I see Bluebursts quite often.

The only Sea Green and Burgundy COY's for sale in recent memory are the 4003's that Paul Boyer got, and both of those must have been almost a year ago. Blue Boys have been scarce. Desert Gold's have come out of the woodwork a bit lately. Monty's have actually been a bit scarce, and has been commading a premium as well.

I'm thinking since there has been no official COY for '07 and '08, it makes any color of the year increase in value.
Once the people who bought a Blueburst to flip them are done, we probably won't see them quite so often.

I agree with some of your sentiments. But my thought is the blue boy and the sea green were not popular choices when they were made. They may gain some attention because of scarcity. However the BBR is unique, and was a really popular color during the ordering phase. I see them around now and agree that is because people are selling off their "profit" guitars. I just think in time the BBR is going to have some big $$$$ more so than any other color. Its more widely appealing than some of the other colors and its pretty damn unique. imo

I don't too much care what the "value" of my guitar is. I buy them with the intention of keeping them for life, not to sell them off. Of course, I may sell one off, but that has yet to happen. When I think about buying guitars with "value" in mind, all I can think of are those poeple who bought the DCMs, and then turned around and put them up on eBay for $2985, well before Rics shot up in price. Ooey.

I dont buy to sell either. I dont even have a rickenbacker. But I have found while trying to buy a rickenbacker that color is important and causes big issues in trying to find the guitar you want.
