Hello and a brief question!

Post by Spirantho »

First off - Hi. :)

I've just registered both my Rics on the register; I got my 360/12 yesterday (brand new cost me less than a grand - £1000 that is! - can't be bad!) and I've still not had chance to play it properly yet, and I've registered my 4001C64 too (the second oldest one on the register - October 2002). I've also a Gibson Custom '58 Goldtop Les Paul and some cheaper guitars but probably best not mention that too much around here!

Now for a quick question:
Given the fact that we all play guitar on here, with varying abilities, is there a forum where people can post their recordings? It'd be interesting to see what the people on here can do with their equipment, and help put faces to names if there are YouTube videos and the like. When I get around to doing a video/track I'm happy with I'd certainly want to put it up for others to see, even if in my case they'll probably be awful compared to some of the things other people are doing with their Rics!

Ah, yes, that's the sort of thing..!

How about making the thread sticky though? Or a seperate sub-forum - that way a person could start a topic with whatever they want criticism of, and each song wouldn't get lost in a 17-page thread?

Not that I'm trying to re-organise the forum already, just that's what I'd do if I were admin. :)

Seems like a good and friendly site, though. Now all I need to do is resist the temptation to buy more Rics, as you guys seem to have a lot of them!

Ya know? I think Jerry Ryan looks better now than she ever has. Age has settled well with her.

Welcome! I like your idea. Makes sense. As to resisting the temptation, give up now - it is futile. Cue Jared.

That's not a bad idea! I'll bring it on with Peter and we'll see what we can do about it.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Gil,

Sticky's can get to be a bit annoying at times. Especially if there are a whole bunch of inactive ones in the same forum section and you are just trying to quickly peruse or catch up on threads that you may have missed for one reason or another. Just my two cents.

Welcome Ian btw. Congrats on the aquisition.

Ok, guys. You have a new forum in response to the questions posted and comments made here. I hope it will encourage others to record and post information about their Rickenbacker recordings here.

My response was regarding the idea of a new forum, not on the sticky topics, as you can see - Peter said yes! :)

As far as having a platform to post recordings, it seems like this new thread serves the same purpose as the 'Let's Hear Your Stuff!' thread that Sean Weingartner started under 'Rickenbacker Artists' a couple of years ago. It's cool that people can post their stuff in separate subs, but I can see Medway's point that there's going to be a LOT of subs that go dormant in time and leave a lot of clutter on the thread. Would it make sense to move the 'Let's Hear Your Stuff!' thread into the 'Recordings by RRF members...' heading so that these two separate yet identically intended threads are at least in the same place? This way people who having been posting on the original thread (LHYS) can follow up with the folks who have already posted songs there, and people who are newly posting their songs under their own subs have convenient access to the LHYS thread as sort of an archival reference. Also: archive the new subs so that they're out of the way but not lost once they become dormant. What does everyone think about that?

Good idea Mark... I had thought Peter had said when starting this slice of the forum that others would be moved in as warrented and time allowed - I was thinking that Let's Hear Your Stuff would eventually make it in. Lord knows we have a bunch of great players and writers as Forumites - Achiving makes sense... I like it.
