War of the 4x10s: Ashdown MAG vs SWR

Post by phlemmy »

So I bought the Ashdown MAG 4x10 yesterday and ran it along with my SWR GOliath III 4x10 at practice last night. I really expected the SWR to sound better but it didn't. I ran the Ashdown out of one channel on my QSC and the SWR on the other. After a few songs, I cut the SWR back to about 50% to get a more even sound. I am buying the 2x10 MAG next week. The boss (my guitarist) wants me to set up and run both stacks at practice! Mainly for pics and such but it will also see how much my rig can push. It'll be cool.

My rig now consists of 3 Ashdown MAG 4x10 cabs and 1 MAG 2x10 cab. Primarily 2 of the 4x10 cabs will stay in the trailer and be used for gigs and the other 4x10 and 2x10 will be used for practice. When we play places with bigger stages, I'll use all 4 of them.

I've sold my SWR cabs.

Wow, got rid of the SWR's? Awesome. Must sound great now. How big of a difference?

It's hard to define. I can get more bottom end and still keep my grind in tact...for 1/2 of the price!
