yes, ted ...i remember reading and seeing pics of the jean genie shoot where trevor was using the ric. outside of this shoot I have not seen him using a ric. was the live stuff staged ? does not look it. did he use it on any recordings or did he have a passing fancy because it looked cool ? does anyone know ?

Bowie, Elton and Bolan were typical at that time of the brilliance of an individual, so perfectly complimented by wonderful musicians. It remains to me a truly wonderful time of songwriting and musicianship.

I was thinking that the other day Wints. Bolder is similar in many ways to Dee Murray. Both are great players who played largely unknown behind great front men.

andrew...what has happened ? funny you should mention marc bolan. the songwriting and guitar tone of marc bolan is the stuff. bolan, ronson are my favorite guitar players, not because they are technically great but because i feel what they are doing.
i see all of this vintage gear being sold on EBAY but i don't see it translate into great or even good songwriting or sounds. i am listening to bowie's "hunky dory" while i'm writing this and it seems worlds away. it's natural, human and in my face...... recordings seem to have been on a steady decline since about 1974 and reaching the first completely unmoving low in the early 80's. i have a difficult time listening to anything in the last 28 years. all genres of music and film seem to have had it right in the late 60's and early 70's,.... tammy wynette, chet baker, sabbath, scorcese, cassavetes, even romy schneider. it seems you couldn't go wrong then. now it seems we are going in the wrong direction. i'm not even that old !!!
do the younger people even know what they are missing ? why move along with technological progress if it's taking us farther away?

I'd agree the tech side has taken away the feel it would seem, certainly since the mid 80's to me. All the guys quoted here grew up in the 50's/60's with very diverse influences and had the wind of the 60's movement at their backs. It came together throughout the 70's and the stuff there today blows away the contemporary scene IMO.

It's across the board too, especially with r'n'b, with the "performers" of today who should not be mentioned in the same breath as the 60's and 70's guys.

If you have a look at the Bowie video compilation DVD, I think Trevor used a Ric in a few videos which suggests he had it for quite some time.

This might be a bit off topic but Trevor's black Eb-3 sold on the bay about a year and a bit back for nothing more than the normal going rate for a Eb-3. Kinda sad really...
