Supporting the RickResource???

Post by ric330 »

How is the RickResource Funded?
I mean doesn't it cost somebody money to maintain it?
Is It all coming out of Peter's pocket?

A huge hand for Peter and those whos efforts have made the RickResource Great fun and informative.

As far as I know, it all comes out of Peter's pocket, but so far he has refused to take funds from forumites because he says this is his hobby. So we try to make some helpful non monetary contributions if and when we can and do our best to stay with in the forum rules.

I'm sure most of us would be happy to help fund the forum, but Peter says he's got it all covered.

Thanks again for the great forum, Peter.

Yeah I was trying to find a link for contributions or something in the way of help to maintain the site and just couldn't find anything.
With such a large base of registered users I'm sure most everyone here would love to contribute - But if Peter's avid about forking out
himself it is greatly appreciated. But I will be one of the first in line if the time comes to help with support. I bet there would be a rumble
of members tripping over eachother to help. :D

THANKS PETER!

Thanks Peter for many years of Rick enjoyment. I've been around since the first days of the old news group and then this forum. If there is any help you need monetary or other for this forum, you can count on me anytime. I'm here. Jon

Peter has politely turned down offers to help fund the forum before. This subject has been brought up a number of times since I became a member. We are indeed indebted to his generosity.

Thanks to all who have been so kind to offer assistance with RickResource.com.

From 2000 to 2007 I did not feel it right to accept monies as this project has been of my creation and no one has twisted my arm either to initiate or maintain this Forum. I am, however, both moved and appreciative of the offers for assistance that have been made, past and present.

Based on software limitations of the old platform and having been shown the features of a new format it became clear that a change was in the cards. It was appreciated from the outset that such a change would not be readily accepted by some long time members and to a degree this prediction has been born out. It was also expected that an improved forum would bring other members and this too has been the case.

I have had the very good fortune to have met the members of our registration team who worked diligently in eliminating the backlog. I owe Kris, Joey, Tony and Kendall much for their kind assistance and pulling the Register out of the ashes. I also am grateful for all those who have taken the time to send in their registrations during the hiatus. I am proud to say we are now up to steam and I encourage all who can to send in their registration details as soon as they are able.

I owe our Tech Man, Gil Disatnik, so much for all his efforts. He dragged me kicking and screaming into the php world and convinced me of the merits of a new software platform. No only has he made my life easier, but he has developed the software that drives the Register and allows our forum to operate effectively. I could write a book about his talents, but let me just say that he has allowed our membership to grow. Last but not least, Gil has offered RickResource a place on his server which has allowed us to offer archives, increased forums, the return of a new and improved Register and the promise of many new improvements that he is currently addressing as time permits. He is a kindered spirit that has allowed me to focus on the content of the forum with less worry about the technical side. I can safely say that none of these improvements would have taken place without him. When I run into difficulty he solves the problem quicker that I can say "Disatnik."

Among the many gifts that I have received since my first forum on alt.guitar.rickenbacker which I created in the fall of 1997, perhaps the greatest of all is the willingness of all who love Rickenbackers to share their knowledge. This has made RickResource a wonderful place to visit. The wave of support that I have received over the past decade has been a ride I will never forget and long may it continue. What a Pipeline! For the time being, there is no need to ask for your financial suport and this is in large measure thanks to Gill's generosity.

Thanks to all who continue to care. Your support shines through, even on the cloudiest of days. Your friendship continues to provide a twinkle in my eye and a bounce in my step each time I sign on. I cherish each of my visits here as it always feels like a trip home.

If you are wondering what you can do, the answers are simple. If you see someone who needs assistance with a Rickenbacker - help them; if you see someone who is lost - send them here through your links; if you learn something new about Rickenbackers - let us know; if you see someone who has fallen - pick them up. Together, we leave the Internet a better place. Jangle on.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

As that good old rocker Tina Turner once sang Peter. You are the best, or as she actually put it "You're simply the best"

Thanks for responding to the thread Peter.
It is great to hear about all who are behind the scenes who have really helped you make the forum what it is today.
You are and continue to be the thread that hold this party together.
I love to share my growing affection for the Rickenbacker guitars and basses and continue to expose all who I know to them.
And they all smile. :D
Cheers Peter.
And thanks again.

Speaking of "free party" vs "paid party" (and mind that i'm not greedy, far from that, and if — at the moment, when i got quite used to this forum — there were some fees introduced to take part, i'd pay gladly), i've noticed a slight difference. When the party's free, you're a guest at somebody's home; and, as a guest, one'll hardly get an idea to rudely complain about food or try to set their own rules. When it's paid... i've noticed that sometimes, at paid parties, people request a special attitude from the host, a special menu, and think they're allowed to do whatever they want ("hey, i've paid for that, and now you're talking about rules?! that's me who sets the rules because i've paid my money" and such). Could be kinda dangerous. Not that i would mind fees, as i mentioned earlier.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, this is the only web forum where i've been a member for more than half a year, and for a good reason. Usually nice talks, nice people, and sometimes even moral and psychological support — we may all have days when we need that but don't want to trouble our loved ones; and of course, good fun. And of course, it couldn't be that great (GR8 — hi Scott) if it didn't have a great guy as a board administrator. That's not a piece of flattery.
I'm a pretty useless thing, so i'll just say — thank you Peter. Thank you Gil. Thank you all, guys and gals. And if i can be of any use, just call.
Oh, and sorry for such a long post. :D
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
