Now I got the right amp for my 330!

Post by octagon »

I really haven't been happy with the way my 330 sounds with Peavey Mini Colossal.I went to Guitar Center and saw a Vox AC15CC1 and asked to try it.They gave a Les Paul Vintage Mahoghany and it sounded pretty good then I tried a Fender 52 Telecaster and it was even better,so I decided to take one home. When I plugged in my Rick and struck a hard G I finally got that sound I have been waiting to hear since I first opened the box my 330 came in.You know that sound, the one you hear when ever you call Rickenbacker on telephone.

Now there's a pair to behold.
I'm modding my BF Deluxe clone to more Vox like tone and drive. I put a set of conversion 6L6 to EL 84's in my power section, globalized the reverb and vibrato. and have a Celestion Blue in the cabinet. I put a push pull on the normal channel to give it more of a fat tone when pulled.

I know...should have just bought the Vox. :? But I love to tinker.

It sounds pretty sweet but I'm still tweeking. It doesn't sound like a Deluxe but more sweet overdrive like you'd get from a Vox AC 15.
I love those AC15's and would really like to get one but for now I'm tinkering with the Deluxe..

It doesn't get any better when you finally get that tone you were looking for. And that 330 JG not only looks awesome now with but sounds the part.
Turn it up a touch I think I can hear you :D

I just noticed the Made in America sticker still on your pickguard.
I couldn't bring myself to remove mine for 2 weeks. I just did.

What do you think of the reverb on the Vox AC15CC?
Did you play with the Vibrato yet?
The tone circuit is pretty cool - depending on your guitar volume and drive level the tone on the amp changes and dails in some real sweet tone.

Mitch, congrats on the new amp. There is something about a Vox....

Speaking of which, now that you've got the AC-15, does Ballou like the sound of your 330 any better?
