I know that a lot of this has been covered already (loads in the archives) but I'm new here (hi) so what the hell.

Huge Jam & The Clash fan. Our band does loads of their covers and Stiff Little Fingers.

Also good to see Nicky Wire from The Manics still plays a Ricky now and again.

The Clash's "London's Burning" was made for the ricky growl - love playing that live.

I actually traded in the Jet Glow 4003 for a FP Deluxe yankee

But have just bought a maple varnished 4003 again - as I missed the Ricky dearly !

I am a huge fan of the Jam and just got their DVD 2 disc set for Xmas, great stuff and I love their sound. A Rick fan's delight, especially with Paul Weller playing the Ricks also. I was surprised to see Bruce Foxton playing thru Marshalls. Any idea what models he used? Thanks!

Steve, i know he used 100watt marshalls, not sure about the type, maybe JCM 800? I know not a lot on Marshalls amps. Actually im not sure Foxton even used bass amps - John Entwistle didnt did he? They were just "marshalls" then

I'll see if I can grab a still off of the DVD and post it here so you can see what I am talking about...they might have been regular amps, not specifically "Bass" amps. I know quite a few bassists who used guitar heads and cabs onstage, myself included!

Owen, how can you tell the difference between the 100 watt Marshall bass amps and the 200 watt Major? To me it looks identical to the 100 watt model. I have always wondered if he was using the 100 watt or the 200 watt models. Both use a four power tube setup, the Major just has four KT 88's instead of four EL 34, that and of course larger transformers.

lol i cant tell the difference, i just remember reading somewhere that he used an 100w. that of course doesnt mean that he used 200w's as well.

His sound is so dirty and violent i wouldnt be surprised if he used guitar amps

Have you ever tried out a Major? They're just brutal. I tried on out one time, man! It's a close second it grunt and growl to a SVT. As far a pure tube brute snarl, it's got it. The Major was Stevie Ray Vaughn's favorite live guitar amp.
I think more guitar players have used it than bass players.
They are really rare over here, I see them now and again, no where near as many as the 100 watt amps.
