Solos`n`Licks

Post by scotty »

In another topic forum members were discussing tosh and we crossed the subject of Solos and licks that changed the musical form. What lick or Solo shines for you.
Some IMHO would be
The Kinks you really got me
The Beatles Hard Days Night
Hendix All along the WT
Who I Cant Explain

For guitar, very fond of My Before and After - Cotton Mather or Spin My Wheels with ebow.

Bass has to be Barbarism Begins At Home- The Smiths.

The Messiah will Come Again. Roy Buchanan originally, but many quality covers. This one by Gary Moore is quite impressive:

My wife turned me on to Roy Buchanan. She said she saw him at a little smokey club in Montreal in the 80's without knowing anything about him, and was blown away by the emotion in his playing.

Absolutely, Greg. Roy's solos are not the Malmsteen level of technicity by any means, but more emotion in one note than any shredder I've ever seen.

Roy Buchanan, Billy Gibbons, BB King, and David Gilmour all seem to be able to play what sound to be simple licks, but with the most articulate embellishments and emotion. Of course there are other players who have the ability, but these are four standouts IMO.
