Do you like the 350v63 ?
I have never played one. I am looking for a 620 in blueboy and I ran accross a 350v63 in maple glo. I want a unique rick but I am sick of playing a fender. I was thinking of trying this one out because I miss my rick.
Tell me about the 350v63.

Tell us where you saw it.

I love them, Peter...... I have three of the little darlings!! Great sounding guitars and really comfortable, slinky necks - not "clubby" at all. The full scale neck combined with the smaller body suits me to a tee. Perhaps the only downside is the vintage tuners but I can live with 'em!
+1 on Greg's question..... where did you "run into" the MG?

What is it you hate about the Fender? Which Fender? I have a Strat, Tele and a 350 V63 and on most days I prefer the Strat. Only beause of my hand size. I love the 350V63 sound, but my hands get around the fret board easier on the Strat.
Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
Interesting, Brian. I have a number of Strats that I play regularly and when I switch to a v63 (or just about any other Rick for that matter) it takes a while to adjust but not when I switch back to a Strat. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing my Ricks at all...... I guess it could be a hand/neck situation like yours.

I like fender. I dont really like gibsons but I do like fender.
But with a rickenbacker its just different. I feel a bond at least did with my rick. I loved the smell of that guy and everytime I picked it up it felt just right. The neck was more comfortable and just fit. Fenders are better for lead type stuff but when I play rhythm and just want a nice balanced guitar in my hands the 620 just fit. I also love the neck through verses the built on. The pickups I love. I could go on and on. I love my fender but I am burned out on them I miss the rick.

Aitch, I have the same experience. Moving from my 350 to my PRS (Wide Thin Neck) or to my Strat is not a difficult transition, but moving from either of those to the RIC takes a longer period to adjust. I enjoy them all, but for some reason, the transition in one direction is easier than the other.ozover50 wrote:Interesting, Brian. Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
Agreed, John. Same with my Gibsons and others. I think the CV on the back of the neck makes a difference too. If it's at all slightly tacky it's not as easy to slip around the fretboard... you almost have to use a 'release and catch' method.
Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
It's been a while since I played a 350, but I also remember noticing a transition--interestingly, more so than with the 325 I have now. In addition to the physical differences (body size and weight, scale length, nut width, etc.), subjectively I think a Strat just feels a lot more substantial than the Ric, which probably makes us feel like we're all over the Ric when it's first picked up.

Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
The two guitars I am switching between right now are my 350V63 and an Epiphone Dot. I recently hung a Bigsby B7 on the Dot and am having some fun with that. I agree that Rick takes a song or two to adjust to while I don't really notice the same phenomenon going to the Dot.
One thing pertaining to the neck speed that I do now on my Ricks after reading a post here (Paul W..., who else) is use Dr. Stringfellows Lem-Oil on the backside of the neck, let it set up for a minute, and buff it out with a clean cloth. Works great and lasts a good while. YMMV.

Too right, Dan. I often use Dr. Stringfellow on the back of my Rick necks but I like to give them a belt with the Zymol afterwards just to clean them up. I find that a rub with Zymol works just as well provided your hands don't get all sweaty...... then it tends to get a bit 'gluggy' after a while.
Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
Did you ever tried Powerchord? It works very well at removing fingerprints and gunk that can build up on the back of the neck. It's great stuff,I've used it on all the guitars that I've owned.
Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
Bill,
Aitch, I agree with the Zymol on the neck. That is without question the best thing I've ever used on my guitars.
Don't you mean 325S (as in more than one)wj350 wrote:...I also remember noticing a transition--interestingly, more so than with the 325 I have now....

Re: Do you like the 350v63 ?
The 350v63 has a narrow neck side to side, even when compared to other RICs and it takes getting used to. Once you're used to it however, the neck be very fast and comfortable. With the small frets sometimes bending is a bit harder than your typical Strat of Gibson, but again, it is easier the more you play it. The sound is fabulous of course, though I like a hotter toaster in the bridge position myself. Great guitar though! I've got a 350v63 BBR.

What downside have you got with the tuners Howard? I had a problem with the vintage tuners on a 325 I have, but the other vintage tuners on my other Rics are smooth and positive with no slack.ozover50 wrote: Perhaps the only downside is the vintage tuners but I can live with 'em!
