Hipshot bridge discoloration

Post by Bob4003 »

I just received my Hipshot bridge and it's slightly discolored on the interior of the bridge behind the saddles. It's as if the chroming process didn't take correctly. The retailer I bought it from claims it's normal and that all the bridges he's sold exhibit this appearance. Obviously I don't have another one to compare it to locally. Do those of you that have the bridge have the same discoloration?

Mine was like that, that is normal, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

Like this?

I didn't think this was "normal". It certainly doesn't appear as such in the photos of the bridge on their site.

Mine was not nearly as bad as that, just a tiny bit of discoloration at the back end by the edge below where the strings go into the tail.

That looks like a pic from the Hipshot site. If mine where like that, it wouldn't be so bad. :|

I made those photos for Hipshot. It is of the '04 4003FL I used to have, that is now in the capable hands of Alex Heist.

Aah!, so you're the culprit! :)

As I said, if mine looked like that, I would live with it - but it don't!

That is just an aberration in the plating. If you bought it new perhaps you can take it up with Hipshot directly.

You would think that wouldn't you?

I was quite nice about it and asked to see what they could do, Jason from Hipshot (that's where I got it from, direct from them) even replied (once) saying it didn't look right.

Anyhow, it sort of makes an alright paper weight, almost.

Mine looks just like Manuel's. The eBay store where I got it from won't take it back even though it's new - won't shop there again. Should I take the issue up with Hipshot or just use it as is? I guess once the strings are on you won't see it as much.

Mine has very slight discoloration. It doesn't bother me, because this bass is a workhorse anyway.

Mine is perfect. Oh wait, mine is an original Rickenbacker part. Never mind.

I've owned two Hipshots . One was chrome/brass and one is the chrome/aluminum . Both had that blemish by the saddles . So I think they are consistently inconsistent but I would soon forget about it and enjoy how well they work . Would you like to cure the dead notes on your Rickenbacker ? !!! Would you like to palm mute your strings with out bleeding ? !!! Would you like perfect intonation ?!!! Hipshot ! :D
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !
