Mine is a Chapparal, I believe it is a '98. I have always wanted a B12S or even a Quad Bass and will someday have one! But this bass is a nice player and sounds HUGE! Active electronics too...I added the "stars" because the black on black on black didn't really read well on stage.

Thanks for the quick responses, guys.
Steve, yours is one of the best looking black Chaparral 12 strings that I've seen, simply because of the stars!!! They match the "full of tuners" headstock nicely too. Cool and creative touch of yours!
I'd like to get a B12S in this finish someday.
P.S.-Aren't 'Chaparral" and "B12L" the same thing? They are, in my '96 Hamer catalog...
P.S.S.-I really hope RIC would produce 4003 12 string or 4004CII 8 and 12 string bass versions, with options of both inverted and normal stringing.

Paul,
Yes, I think the B12L is the same as the Chaparral, and if Ric made a 12 string, I would be in line right now to get one. I love the pic of the B12S you put up, those flame tops are nice! I almost bought one in transparent red with the flame top, it was gorgeous but couldn't swing it at the time. I'm still looking, though!

Owen,
Basically the 12 string bass has 2 octave strings instead of the one octave string that an 8-string bass has. If you play in a 3-piece band with no rhythm guitar player, there is a lot of space that can be filled in with a 12-string bass. Basically it replaces the rhythm guitarist!
It has a lot of possibilities, but also is a little restricting in terms of soloing on it! Definitely a unique sound, though.

Yeah, 12 string basses are a lot of fun, but they need to be well set up, cause the extra string tension gives you cramp if your not careful, you need strong fingers. The sound is incredible though, and despite the inflexibility for day to day use, they are a worthy addition to the collection if you have the spare space and money. My odd Rick request? a 6 string 4003 tuned 4ths from low B-E-A-D-G-C, but I sure fancied that 6 string 4005 on eBay the other week, drooool!
I've used a BassPOD for a while, and it's compressor is more than OK. Then I grabbed back at my Boss LMB-3 which is also nice, and works suberb with my 2003 4003/FG. Nowadays I use a second hand Eden WT-300, which has a comp. build in, but I use my Boss still, because it works just better for me personal.
Beside owning 14 guitars and basses and my own homestudio, what do I want more?
it must be hard to play anything on a 12 string except root notes. My brain would burst trying anything else!!

Sometimes it is a little challenging, I have my action set nicely but my hands can hurt sometimes if I use it for 3 sets. I used to play it exclusively in a certain band I was in a few years ago. I can't imagine doing that now...I do maybe 6-7 songs a night on it and that is enough! Again, the RIC has spoiled me!
