4003S with Ric-O-Sound

Post by jahniki »

Hello all, I'm new and glad to be here and my question is...
"Has anyone ever seen or has an "S" model, 4001/4003, doesn't make any difference, that has factory installed "Ric-O-Sound"?
I have seen many "S" models, but never have I seen one with OEM "R-O-S". Anyone...Anyone...
Thanking all!

I might be wrong, but I don't think the S's come ROS. I have an '00 4003s5 and it was not ROS capable. I made it ROS able - sounds great!

Welcome to the forum, Harold. I think there may have been a few exceptions where S models were made with Rick-O-Sound.

Harold, pardon my bad manners - welcome to the forum... I would defer to anything Joey says along these lines.

I seen a couple of S basses with Rick-O-Sound. I'm not sure if they were made like that or they were modded.

well here lies cunundrum. I have one and I tried to post a picture but was told it's too big to be posted. I took it apart to check for mods and there are none there. The routing is correct and you can plainly see the finish has not been altered by illeagal routing. Was it a "mistake" and fitted with ROS by a routing in the factory, you know, send to next step for compeletion but went in the wrong direction instead. Anyway I'll see if I can get a smaller jpeg and post it for all and see if we can solve the "S"-ROS mystery.

There are definately S models with ROS. I don't know why but they do exist. Perhaps they were orderd that way.

F Freida? yep it is. And since you've seen the bass, we all know there's at least one out there! At Least one. I suspect there might be more. I doubt Ric would take a special order for a "S" with ROS. Whatta ya think?

Thought so Harold....

Yes, that's a genuine Ric you have there, no question, and a nice one at that.

Now about that 77 Stingray I just missed out on....You still got it?

Welcome Harold! I've got one as well - actually I have both. My older 1982 4001S (avatar) is mono only, but my more recent purchase is a 4003S Mapleglo with Ric-O-Sound. They do exist. I sort of like it, as you get the dots, contoured body, and the stereo jack as well. It was made in mid-1982, or a little after my 4001S. It also is an older "transition" 4003 with two-piece pick guard. I need to post an updated "family" picture as it is. Hopefully I will have the time to do this soon.

Actually the SR my son wanted to keep, it's real tough having 2 bass players in the family. So I'm selling the 20th Anniversary Quilted top. It's still on there. Take a look. My son loves Flea and he lusted after a Sting-Ray and I just saw that one(20th) in Tampa and knew he'd like it, but I found the 70's one and couldn't pass it up and now he wants that one so it was taken off the market. And I'm not a fancy bass kinda guy. So selling the 96' isn't really tearin' me up. But you should see what's coming!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to share with everyone when it gets here. I never thought I'd be able to find one, much less afford one. Soon my friends, real soon.

this is for rickboy88. the "S" I have also had the split pickguard. It was changed. You can see all the extra holes underneath the "new" guard. I tried to post some pics but I was told too big so "jps' offered to make them jpeg compatible so the forum can give it a gander. He'll be posting front/back/ROS & body close up for me.

I wondered where that auction went...

If he ever gets tired of it, please let me know! Pre EB or nothing for me...

So, what's coming?
