DRs are over twice the price of Rotos in the UK....ajish4 wrote:+1rickfan60 wrote:I use High Beams on almost all of my basses. Prior to that I used Rotos. The DRs feel a lot like Rotos but are smoother (easier on the frets), last longer, and ring true. I have never had a false DR but PLENTY of false Rotos.
Same here, never had a bad DR string and they last forever. Cheaper, last longer, lower tension, don't eat fingers or frets! A win/win in my book!
DR roundwounds for 4001?

Yes, but they last twice as long and you won't get many bad ones.
Re: DR roundwounds for 4001?
Fresh Rotos last me about a week and a half before getting very noticeably dull. And that's with just farting around in the practice room. I imagine for a gigging musician they would last many days less.
Re: DR roundwounds for 4001?
I use DR's on all my basses now. Hi-Beams (40-100) on my 4003, nickel Lo-Riders(45-105) on my V63 and C64. They are great strings, and I've never gotten a bad set ever.
If you are worried about tension, try the Hi-Beams or the nickel Sunbeams. They should both work on a 4001, since they are both round core, low tension strings.
Re: DR roundwounds for 4001?
I used Rotosound RS66 for a while on my old 4001 back in the late 70's, but they ate the frets pretty bad. After that, I switched to GHS Boomers to save the frets. Of course that's before DR's were available.
Re: DR roundwounds for 4001?
I dont know whats on my Ric atm. I think boomers. Sunbeams didn't have enough tension. Strings would just lay on it lol. However I ALWAYS use lights. Every bass I have has lights on it. Except my Flower P, which I dont know what is has. They were dead so I never changed them.
DR's are great tho

I use Rotos but they don't last long. The set I put on my old S8 lasted 1 gig. However over here they're cheap as chips, which means restringing isn't too bad. I may try the DRs at some stage though as I like a lower tension string.
Re: DR roundwounds for 4001?
I started with Rotosound, then switched to DR Highbeams after getting too many dead strings.
Great strings, nice, bright tone and they last for a long time. Never got a dead string in a new pack of DR's.
Switched back to Rotosounds two years ago and have not got a dead string in those two years.
DR's were a great replacement for the Rotosounds, but in the end I still like the Rotosound sound a bit better.
So, I'm back to the Rotosounds.
For now.
