Blown Pick-Up ?

Post by niffy »

No please don't laugh at my complete naive self here, but I may have a problem...

The bass (nearest the bridge) pick-up on my 4003 seems to be very noisy when a loud note on the e string is picked.

It actually sounds like a blown speaker.

Is this normal, or a common fault, and is it easily fixed ?
How much etc ?

Any info much apprecio.

Sounds like the polepiece/pickup may be a bit too high and the string is striking it. It's happened to me a few times. If that's the case, lower the E-string side of the pickup just a hair, or until those strong plucks don't do it anymore.

Thanks Kurt, that certainly helped. I still think there's a small pop in there though.
