Yep, great set ... and a little short, too! :) :(

having recently watched the 4 hour doc,and both 1 hour soundstage shows,i thought the super bowl set, while too brief, was incredible, and not just because the guys sounded great, the production was fantastic. all live concerts should be filmed this way! hmmm---maybe over time, the football game and halftime shows could trade length...... :)

I kinda agree. Though I wasn't surprised by the choice of songs at all.

It was great fun to see them (almost as much fun as the outcome of the game) but didn't anyone else get the impression that it seemed just a little laid back and flat?
Maybe it was the set selection. Oh well. Still good to see 'em.

I thought it was a great set, but it did seem like their energy level was a bit low.... But then maybe it was just the beard--it made T.P. look kind of old, LOL!

It was certainly a treat to see him play that beautiful Ric 12-string! :D

Do you think this was one of the late-80's Sam Ash 1993s or a maybe a more recent custom order? It looked a little newer than a RM to me (for what that's worth :) ).

Tom Petty with his Ric was pictured on the front page of today's Houston Chroncile:

From the paper's Sports Editor:
I can't remember a halftime at the Super Bowl in which the fans knew the words to more songs than this one. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are rockin' the house right now.

First, they did the Bill Belichick theme song: "You can stand me up at the gates of hell, but I won't back down."

Then, they sumed up what the Giants' pass rush was doing to Tom Brady in the first half when he was "free fallin'" on his backside more than any game this season.

Sure it was great to see Tom and the band. I was initially thrilled to see a Fireglo F-hole Ric -and then the Super Beatles.
It's like seeing like old friends.

BUT

Overall it was a bit of a snoozefest. Maybe the mix was a bit anemic. Maybe the song choices were a bit too obvious (weren't two of those TP SOLO songs?). Thankfully there were no wardrobe malfunctions. And it's ALWAYS nice to see a Rickenbacker in the hands of a real player.
