Absolutely love the HS in my v63, want one for my v68, much too pricey right now.

They seem to come in bass and guitar versions with 4 and 6 polepieces, so I guess they are not really interchangeable.
I guess they are too prohibitive, would be interesting to hear one on a guitar though.

Ted, having a RI horseshoe pup and having played a couple old Ricks with the magnetic shoe pups, I have to agree. Not the same sound - close but there is a roundness or fullness to the originals. I bought mine (off a C64) for the sound.rickfan60 wrote:Both types of RI horseshoe pickups sound great (V63 and C64). They are both strong and loud. I love my V63 but to be honest, it sounds nothing like my vintage horseshoe pickup. The C64 pickup is closer (not quite as hot) but still not a vintage sound. It is not clear to me whether people are spending those big bucks on the VRI pickups for the looks or the sound.

I have a RIHS sitting right in front of me. I've had it for over a year now and I've never installed it and tried it.
It could be for sale if someone were to make me a nice offer for it!

Gutsy move, Steve. Just when you off it, you'll get a bass just right for a HS and then where will you be?!

I've got a new, never been used RI HS too, but am waiting for a couple months before I decide if I want to put it up for sale or not.

OK, what's the latest on the horseshoe situationl?
Surely if we can put a man on the moon, someone can build a horseshoe pickup for us desperate souls! I mean, come on man; what's the deal?! I've never seen anything so silly in my entire life! People buying antique lap steels for slaughter! Buying basses just for the pickup?! Sheez RIC, we need some relief here. Why not do the same thing their doing with Paul W? Let Lollar make the pickups and RIC get all the credit/profit etc?

Sorry to come off so cross, I'm just venting a little.

If we were to ever to this . . . that should be a capital IF . . . we sure wouldn't do it with Lollar. We never, EVER, give infringers a second chance to actually work WITH us.
