Looks like walnutburst with a black guard.
It's an amberglo but maybe it's the lightingand my monitor...

I've seen far more Autumnglo/Walnut Ricks with black pickguards than I've seen with white ones.

I haven't seen many of the walnut burst (autumnglo) type Basses in general - Is it pretty close to Monty brown up close?

Autumnglo/Walnut varied a lot over the years it/they were available. I've seen some that were very light and reddish, and others that had a darker, greener brown. Monte also varied. My 4003 is light and reddish; strong iced tea is a good description. I had a 660/12 for a little while that was much darker, but not the greenish brown like on the darker Autumnglos.

My '76 Autumnglo is close, but has cream binding instead of the black binding on the Gbase one:

You can listen to it too:

Thanks Jeff! Someone over at the Alembic Club was mentioning that they've never seen a 5 string exploiter, and I think they're right! (There are 8-strings of course) You might have to be the first...

Ted, so was the original guard white? Black plastic is fine to me as long as the binding matches. I'm not personally a fan of the ninties colored guitars like blue and red with BT. Looks good with the brown bursts, MG, and white, gold, or silver. See, I think these colors look funny with white trim IMO. Somehow the combination originally in question looks OK with the white neck binding/ black body binding on a white guitar if it has black guard/TRC.

The original guard was white but it had been damaged by the first owner.

I used to have a '77 4001 in Walnut, it looked killer with white plastic. Never been a fan of the black plastic/trim myself...
