Yep Spitting Image was shown out here (left coast, USA) for a while. Reagan was brutal and hilarious and spot on as mentioned.

IIRC there was an American version as well.

The Reagan puppet was used in the Phil Collins video, playing upon the fear many had that the "cowboy" with the six letters in each of his three names (Ronald Wilson Reagan - 666) would be the catalyst for WWIII and the end of the world as we knew it.

There was a lot of fear and paranoia re: USA vs. USSR.
Take a look at movies from that era: Soviets attaking USA, school kids saving USA; Rambo; Rocky vs. The Russian; A couple of TV movies about Nuclear annilhiation, on and on.
Pre-Gorbachov Russia plus Reagan equaled tense times.

Yeah, and then watch Soviet movies and read Soviet era magazines for kids (yep, even for kids, not to mention magazines for adults). There's been a lot of it from both sides. The times sure have changed...

Sheena, in my last job I worked with a young woman from Moscow. She was really amused by the whole "Rocky & Bullwinkle" thing here in the US, with Boris and Natasha, etc.. She also had an absolutely hysterical little cartoon mpeg file about an American couple trying to order chicken fingers in a Russian McDonalds.

Wouldn't it have been great if the gov'ts stayed out of things and just let all of us get to know each other?

Ahh! What would be the fun in that. If that were the case Bill Maher would be on food stamps.
