First time I saw YES live was in Milwaukee in support of the "Close To The Edge" release. It was also Alan White's second concert as Bill Bruford had left the band at that point.
Squire's rig looked like it was the Dual Showman and the Sunn Coliseum Lead (S.S.) head over that strange 6x12 cabinet, wherein the speakers were on angled baffles, or a V shape.
The booklet from the first Yes Box (4-cd's) and titled "YESYEARS" has a live photo with him using a pair of Fender Showmans with the tall amp heads, (reverb tanks?)EDIT: Whoops, the tall heads were in Paul Yan's post earlier in this thread. The Sunn/Fender combo is what is in the booklet. If anyone has not seen these I can dig out the booklet and pop a scan or two on the forum.

I'm not sure that's an Energy cab, I have a 1x15 and did have a 2x15 and don't see a resemblence.
I'd judge that photo to have been taken in '81 during the short time Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes were in the band, and I first saw new Energy cabinets for sale in a Seattle store around '86 or '87. I can't say for sure but I don't think they were being made much earlier than that.
Please pardon the brand X bass... Chris's Energy cab is just to his right.

Most of you probably know this but if you are looking for that Chris Squire sound, old Fender amps are very trebly and sound very much like his sound when cranked with a Ric bass.
And I played through an old Sunn solid state lead head at one time and with a Fender P with round wounds it sounded almost like Squires sound. I forgot what kind of a cab I was using (I think an SVT), this was for practise. You just have to turn them up to the point of where they are just starting to break up.

They look like Dual Showman Reverbs to me. I had one which I used with a black front super bassman cabinet way back (1973) when I had my first 4001. I had no idea then that Squire had used those heads for bass, I just loved his sound and had no clue what amps he used.
I got a deal on the amp and thought it sounded great with my Rick so I bought it.

Correct Robert and Grant those are the Dual Showman Reverb's.
Also correct Robert on that Energy mistaken identity by me. Energy cabs did not have grillcloths did they? Somewhat of a laquered cab IIRC.
The other Fender Dual Showman in the photo farther above is a Black Face Dual Showman with JBL 15's.
