An Interesting Tone and Technique

An interesting tone and technique here in a demonstration of a Rickenbacker 4003. While I suppose this technique could get old soon, I quite enjoyed the percussive quality and dexterity in this demonstration.

Helps put to rest what some think is a difficult style and tone to get on a Rick bass. Of course that type of thinking was started by the F*nd*r -type loving, Rick hating bassists.

I used to do a lot of this in the 80's. 4001/3 is a great bass for slap and pop.

Excellent clip. Ricks tend to have a bad rap as being difficult to slap and pop on. As we saw in the cip, it is entirely true.

Good example of what can be done with this style of playing.

A maple neck would probably express this tone even more.

Good example of how slapping and popping has evolved, and that 4003 has a similar tone to my '79 4001. This guy is pretty smooth at it.

Victor Wooten is the master when it comes to this style IMHO....

Here's another really cool bass video. It has nothing to do with slapping though.
It shows how you can record over and over on top of what you play and jam with yourself.
It's Michael Manring having fun with Pastorious' Teen Town. I think he surprises himfelf a bit towards the end.
