Ok, but it is a magic one that you can only see if you look in a mirror. A bit like Dracula, only the other way around.8mileshigh wrote:You can show me at the Yorkshire Mini Confluence in a couple of weeks time then

Most of the 21's are like that.rickaddict wrote:Its a 21 fret thang, Kenny. The 21 fretters had necks that were about 1/2 inch longer. To keep the scale the same, the tail had to be brought about 1/2 inch closer to the neck.kennyhowes wrote:Weird that the tailpiece is so much further into the body. All of them from this period like that, and I hadn't noticed before?

My entry into the slightly tweaked 21 fret club!

Kevin that is a beautiful bass.
Please don’t be offended by Grahams comments, some people are just haters. Sad isn’t it?

Dave, now I remember....I should be a hater here. Ken and I found that bass around the same time. There was a mystery thread about it at the time. Ken was negotiating, and I was willing to pay full price, but backed off because of Ken's interest.
Now gimmee!!!!!!!

We've all been wondering that since it first showed up on eBay.heinpete wrote:![]()

...I mean the uncommon location of the tail piece, though it was perfectly in tune...

Re: No more buying guitars this year…..starting now….
That is strange Peter.
My Jon Camp 4001 21 fret and the 4002’s both have the tail piece to the edge of the bass (like Elys’s). They both intonate fine.
However most 21er's that I have seen have the tail placed up the body about an 1”.

Is it time to measure the length of the necks and also the spacing of the frets? Something has to be different to have both bass styles be in tune.dswp wrote:That is strange Peter.

Initial messing with the intonation on mine tells me it isn't quite perfect. It's really close, but I ran out of adjustment away from the neck. The picture is before I changed strings and started working on it.
Any ideas?

Would reversing the offending saddle get you further from the neck?

Good point John, I think I my '71 could benefit from reversing the "e" saddle....when are you coming again?
I will NEVER pickup a screwdriver again!
