Yeah Mr. Hall, how about a stand like that with every purchase of a new Rickenbacker bass, at least for us forum members here?

Wasn't there a centerfold in the '77 era who posed with a Ric? I think I have seen it on Ebay under my Ric searches, but I don't dare post it here! Image

That would have been the late Star Stowe.

Yep. The late Star Stowe made the centerfold of the February 1977 issue of 'Playboy' magazine. She was holding an Azureglo 4001 in that particular picture.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

The picture I posted in the last page was removed and I totally respect Peter's decision.

Anyone who wants a complete, uncovered Star Stowe centerfold JPG image is welcome to e-mail me. I'll be glad to share.Image

I think a Chicks with Rics calendar might be a good marketing tool (with apologies to our p.c. members)

I remember that Star Stowe picture well, I liked the bass better than her! haha! I also bought my first Ric in 1977, I wonder if that was a coicidence? I don't remember if it was before ar after I saw that picture, what month was that center fold Paul? I bought my bass in the first half of the year with my tax return money.
And wasn't that Gene Simmons' bass that she posed with?

You know, I think this thread deserves to be in the "Rickresource Hall of Fame" for "Longest Lasting Thread" and for "Most Twists In A Thread."

We went from Biggest Competitor to cars to wierd emails to porn pics with Rics. Kinda interesting.

Totally agreed, Robert.

Bob, yeah that 4001 Azureglo is rumoured to be Gene Simmons'. Star Stowe was (maybe one of) his girlfriend(s) then and he lent the bass for the photo session. I pesonally think that centerfold is quite a piece of art with the photogrpher's creative use of "glo-ing" light streaks in the background.

The articles?
What's cool about that Feb. '77 issue includes an in depth interview with Keith Stroup, the founder or NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, http://www.norml.org/). Sure gave people some new perspectives on the plant that has trmendous medical values. Hey, don't get me wrong, my friends. I'm not advocating cannabis smoking here.
