How does this Guy sell anything??

Post by ric330 »

Every time this guy posts a Rick the price is rediculous:

shouldn't this be almost $1000.00 less - even at the new price jump... :? :?

Gray market items so I've been told.

As my elderly old uncle used to say... "there is an *** for every seat".

They sell, every now and then. Sad, but true.

It's enough to make a guy want to swear off eBay

What amazes me is it's like the guy has never even shopped around for Rickenbackers. The prices are just so much higher than anybody...

You'd think that for all the ebay fees they burn relisting these guitars over and over that they could just put a more reasonable price on them and sell more. But they keep doing it, so it must be working out for them. Ebay is definitely a seller's market. I've felt kinda bad myself for some of the prices things have gone for that I have sold, but I guess if someone's dumb enough to pay it, you might as well take the sale with a smile.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that is actually a woman.
I couldn't believe it but she actually sold a Midnight Blue 360 in the
last day or so.

I've been watching Rick sales on eBay pretty carefully for several weeks now and it does not look to me like those ridiculously-priced guitars are actually selling.

I've seen guitars sell for a lot more than I would expect---and not unusual or vintage instruments; stuff like recent 360s in Fireglo or Jetglo. But there do seem to be several dealers who consistently list lots of instruments at substantially above "market prices", and I haven't seen people actually buying them at those prices.

I just did a quick look, but I had to go back a page or two to see a guitar sale in his/her feedback. I'm guessing probably does at least as well as a lot of mom & pops, without the overhead?

I think the thing these guys occasionally score on is the customer who wants a particular Ric, right now, and is willing to pay the premium for the "right now" part.

Just me.

Seems like any ol' dude could nicely undercut these bid-'em-up artists by offering the same deals on Ricks as say POTR, Rhoads, NCM, or some of these other well known dealers. But what do I know?

Correct on both counts as far as I know.
This seller has been discussed before. Search for JH's comments.
I followed-up on RIC site once and had my head chopped off.

What does "gray market" mean? Is that when new Ricks are bought from an official Rick dealer and resold as new (with no factory warranty) by a non-dealer? That's what I think it means but looking for some clarity here.

I tracked the sales of this seller a few months ago and 3 of 4 were to international buyers.

The prices are too high, in my opinion, but the photos of the blueburst 360 are first rate.

That's right. As I recall, these are all former Musician's Friend blems.
