It was very windy in the DC area last night. We lost electricity and were without power for the entire evening so I was unable to watch the Grammy’s.
However, to help pass the time I wound up the crank and turned on my hand-crank radio. (I NEVER listen to the radio except in the car.)
By sheer chance, Miami Steve’s “Garage” show happened to be on – on whichever station the radio just happened to be tuned to. He played some Beatles and Badfinger and a song called “Cruel Girl” by The Red Button {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Red_Button} which definitely has a very 60s jangly vibe to it.
It’s never fun to be without heat or hot water for any period of time but we made the best of it and enjoyed listening to the radio and reading by candle-light.
[Note – the electricity thankfully came back on early this morning.]

The Red Button disc is excellent for those of you who are power pop fans. It was consistently 1 or 2 in best of 2007 lists. Several tracks with Ric 12's on them.
Cruel Girl was written because of the Ric 12
Mike: "The second song we wrote/recorded. I have to say, it didn't relate to anything current in my life at that moment. For me it was more about all the pain inflicted by women in the past! But honestly, it was about that 12-string Rick as much as anything. Such a cruel, cruel girl she is. It once took me five hours to re-string her, but it was worth every second. She arouses such passion in my heart!"

I saw a bit of the awards. They were absolutely dire. You didn't miss a thing. - Jimfirstbassman wrote:It was very windy in the DC area last night. We lost electricity and were without power for the entire evening so I was unable to watch the Grammy’s.

A nice story Mark. "Power to the people."
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
