The Fun Series

Post by admin »

What about a RIC with a 480 type body and 650s look, let's say a wide neck, ""hum-free"" pickups (call me nuts), 650s bridge...neck through body...paint it white...do black hardware..c'mon, kill me...but wouldn't that look death cool???
I always felt that they could have done more justice to the 480s guitars (which I think are really cool, but I've just seen them on pics), if they did some updating on it...it was the seventies, when you needed a Les Paul lead sound...okay, let's call it the fun series...and it's great fun to post it here, so tell me about your wildest dreams and your fun and fantasy ricks....
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

how bout a dbl. neck 480 light show...or one in that new gold color....
with a 12 string and a 6 string neck....dbl. bound body....
2 vintage Picks in the neck and middle and a real hot single coil hi-gain style in the bridge on the 6 string and 2 vintage scatter wounds in the 12...

How about a 4004 FIVE-STRING Bass with a nice flame-maple top with a satin finish, like tobacco, natural, and colors. With LED lighted fingerboard dots--(optional- for a few thousand dollars more)-with soapbar pickups like Bartolini or Basslines or something and active/preamp electronics to boost those highs when needed. Or new special custom RIC soapbar type bass pickups. Some sort of pickups that might be like those on other high-end pro basses..but let's keep this a Rickenbacker though..Original in it's own right..
Offered in fretless and a 6-string for those who have the huge hands that can play those damn things...Of course this bass I could never afford if it ever existed...probably cost a gazillion dollars...Only in my dreams..I love the one's I've got anyway, and would probably play them instead...

I think a 355 or a 325 Deluxe with the desert gold paint job, large triangular inlays, bigsbys, toasters, and plexi-glass pickguards backed by crushed white pearloid, 1 7/8 thick, and bound on the top only!.
How about some red and royal blue 325's with silver or mirrored pickguards?
Or a flame-top 325? Or all black, f-hole, no pickguard 325? Same in white.

Ah!!!!! I'm thinking about this and I haven't even gotten my 325c yet. doht....

That's fun! My dream RIC would be a 650 with a little change:
-should have a thicker body with rounded edges
-a non-laquered rosewood fretboard
-no cheap looking pickguard
-gold colour, like a Les Paul, even the neck and the headstock
A great RIC lead guitar

Peter: don't lament the 480. I've owned a '73 and a '81. I've never regretted not getting a Les Paul back in '73 or '81 and certainly don't today (and my back thanks me daily!) Now, a lightshow 480 with a real hot super high gain pup at the bridge (like mine has now) would be awesome !!!

Give me a 330 with a thinner top and two modern pickups....and a trapeze tailpiece, the 'R' looks good but is difficult to restring...ever tried that in a gig with nervous fingers?
